Cool, a forefather to Guardian Legend makes it to the west! Sounds like fun, and I hope the MSX Aleste games can make it too one day.

Thanks for the rundown! I really wish M2 put out another Aleste/Compile collection. Thankfully, Egg Console releases have been thoughtfully developed archives. Gonna pick this up very soon. Keep up the great work, Chef!

This is one I've never really explored. I've played a few of the more high profile MSX shmups like the Gradius games, Parodius, Salamander, or Space Manbow, but never this one. It definitely looks difficult, based on the really fast enemy movement and bullet speeds. I can see where some of the Zanac/Aleste DNA comes from.

To each thier own. I still think Rouge Flight is worth some love on this awesome channel, but this is nice too I guess?

Skull Fang on Saturn was ripped to shreds in the press at the time of release. Possibly one of the worst shooters on the system. I don't think time has been kind to this game and it looks very poor. Im going to give this a miss.

Cant find it on steam. Whats the actual name? Skull fang brings no results as does saturn tribute boosted. I found it, doesnt show up when search for it on a staem deck for some reason. Probably language related
@sumobast9 күн бұрын
If you remove the filter for English Language it will show up as WolfFang SkullFang Saturn Tribute Boosted.

I have Skull Fang for the Saturn, great shoot 'em up. It's awesome that it's re-released for current consoles.

This looks pretty fun. I wonder though, if the lag is on the level of Cotton 2 (which was 11 frames and made it unplayable) or if it's on the level of Gunbird/Gunbird 2 (which was six frames, but still playable.) Thank you for the solid review!
@fitaurus19 күн бұрын
Not sure the exact lag, but it feels closer to Gunbird and not as bad as Cotton 2

TATE option?
@fitaurus112 күн бұрын
Sadly no. I checked when playtesting the game and there is no Tate option. Probably due to all the score and other information in the borders. Maybe I'll start adding a Tate yes / no my little info card 🤔

Congrats on 10 years of reviewing shmups. Here's hoping to another 10 years. I started loving shmups during the 16bit era, mainly from the SNES and Turbografx 16. My 3 favorite shmups of all time are Einhander, R Type Delta, and Raiden II, all on the PS1

The era that Einhander came out, we thought it was the send off for shooters as we called them back then. With channels like yours that brought attention to the genre, people like me were reminded about how well most had held up and we went back to check out everything we missed. I was great on Genesis, Neo Geo and SNES, but only knew of the big hits from the Turbografx and PC Engine. There are some really great ones on that system that never got a stateside release.

Im not sure what to make of this. Doesnt look great. Also the 3d model of the red ship is so screwed up, I just need to roast it.("nice model" *toot-toot*) it has this weird flat blocky shape under the cockpit and between the 2 things sticking out towards the front that looks real bad, like they had to connect it all together somehow but didnt finish modeling that part because no one would see it during gameplay. But then someone else decided to make cutscenes where the ships flips around and...oh no. xD Or maybe its the weird way the cockpit sits on top of the rest of the craft.... I get that they tried to go for a more vic viper-esque ship design(why) but the ships in gradius are somewhat aerodynamically shaped, they dont have a giant block hanging under them like this raiden ship. And its an especially shitty fit for raiden imo as they always had fairly "realistic" jet designs before....Id be curious to see the credits...cant seem to find em online...I would love to know if the ship designs or modeling have been done by someone new. The blue ship is less noticeably bad from the little you see it in 3d in this video. Edit: looking at it more and more....it looks like some kind of transformers jet that had to sacrifice sensible aerodynamic proportions to be able to transform. Edit2: what the... If you look at the loading screens the ship on those looks a LOT flatter. Like it should. It does seem that the modeller screwed up then.

I really like twin stick shooters but this looks awful, graphics are muddy and hard to see ships/bullets, framerate looks poor and generic gameplay with super grindy progression. For the price there are significantly better games in the genre for cheaper.

Rainchaser is really good and looks awesome. But none of the other Shmups in this Next Fest has really impressed me. But the On Rails shooter Rogue Flight is awesome and you should look it up!

As a 50 yr old child of the 80's, I'll add a little context. This game was actually quite innovative for its time. It was released in the same year as Gradius and Green Beret, Konami were on a roll that would extend to inc Jail Break, Jackal and Iron Horse. Let's not forget that Tiger Heli and 1942 were released a yr prior to its release, so this was quite the jump for vert stg games. You can carry/shoot 2 weapons at the same time (one per hand) and juggle both with a shield by pressing both buttons, and there was something unique with the weapon that looks like grenades that you literally juggle. I accept that it might only be for people of its time and likely has very little appeal for new players, but it's earned its place in stg history.

Unexpected turn they took with this Bosconian sequel! Instead of multi directional like the first, it looks like a pretty standard vertically scrolling one with a Bosconian flavour…

Love your reviews. Keep it going. As for this game, it doesn’t seem to force you using other weapon types, right? I love arcade archives. There are a couple of them on sale for the next few days, like Darius and Darius 2 and some other great ones.
