Powerful and lyrical. Daniel Kahn has clearly read Capital v1 and understood it - at least the first 2 chapters on the commodity and exchange value. I am currently slowly reading v 1 and what a powerful analysis it is. Marx is so poorly understood and so hopelessly misrepresented

There are some individuals in the world, like Daniel Kahn, who manage to word the facets of the dystopian world we live in, just so well. Whether we are on the same side of the political spectrum, young or old, this pipeline or that one - we are all left with a radical liberty in a world of wolves. So regardless of our relation to each other, we live in an age that will see us shape our world anew. I wish you, and whomever around you the best of luck. World War 3 is going to get much bigger than this still. And God only knows what will happen.

Comrade Kahn, i don't know whether you are an Anarchist, but you've certainly made one of the best (and personally i think - the best) anarchist song in English. Every word of the lyrics is purely in keeping with our ideology, and its mood is much more like our songs than even the most radical revolutionary communist/Marxist/maoist/authoritarian socialist songs. This song is the only song i will ever stand up to, besides Hijos del Pueblo and Mother Anarchy. Screw all national anthems and flags. I'll hear this song in my mind when i fly the black flag at our great struggle for liberation.

I'm fascinated by some of the lines in here, in particular "Paid our union dues, what did that produce? Houses, cars, and other shit For the rich's benefit What do workers get for pay? Hungry, broke, and thrown away Hungry, broke, and thrown away" - Unless is a critique of yellow (Corporate facing) unions, it makes unions seem incompetent/useless. There are also the questionable lines of "There'll be work for every hand In a new and better land, In a new and better land" - This can be read as abandoning struggle for either a utopian void or, given the mixture of Yiddish into this, a longing for the Kibbutz and the body counts that go with those communities.
@Zodiezzz7 ай бұрын
No they are not saying unions are incompetent/useless. It is a socialist song so it's a socialist critique of unions. Specifically, that unions do not end or crush capital. As long as capital is prevalent workers will always be hungry broke and thrown away, that's how capital works. If capital sill exists than the work produces by the union members still produces houses cars and other shit for the rich's benefit because they are making profits. Its not saying unions are unless its saying they're not the answer to the workers problems. Which is correct. Also I don't understand how you read ""There'll be work for every hand In a new and better land, In a new and better land"" as abandoning the struggle. They are saying that in a workers society no one will go unemployed (this is the song about the unemployed after all) and that things will be better for workers in the future. This is basic things that socialists say. Is it a more utopian rhetoric? Sure. But Marx himself has acknowledged that there will be no unemployment in a workers society. So I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion you did.

Your read on the unions is interesting. I thought the line referred to the more bureaucratic and concessionist unions and not the concept of unions being somewhat reactionary in the ml sense, either way it works@@Zodiezzz

"Work and pay our union dues, what did years of that produce? Houses cars and other shit, for the rich's benefit, what do workers get for pay? Hungry, broke and thrown away, hungry, broke and thrown away. Man that one hit home. As we the working class observe and suffer through today's decrepit material conditions, This song and "Sixteen tons" by Tennessee Ernie ford both bear a lot of relevance.
