If you use clippers without oversampling, the ceiling shouldn’t be on. The only point of the ceiling function is to catch ISPs caused by the down sampling. So basically, the ceiling is a second clipper occurring after the over sampling engine. I know this is true for kclip and standard clip.

Should we be sidechaining by frequency band? For example I'd sidechain my mid basses to the kick but only have frequencys in the bass region and down be affected?

Thx for ur work, its just great :) I have wondering in mind -- Bitwig EQ+ change sound even when no processing going on (i guess filters applies even then they seems off), same with over devices and containers in Bitwig, can u share some thoughts on that matter?

So i was watching a video from @Bthelick who was showing his method of ' no mastering needed' i dropped a message in saying how i follow the CTZ method. You may find the reply interesting and i would value your feedback on this. He goes on to say: It's simply the fact that he uses clipping on the channels and buses before reaching master. That's not how digital audio works, it doesn't 'save' any headroom in the long run and only creates more problems at the master buss stage and more aliased clipping down stream. If it's working for you then great don't worry, I'm only saying the science doesn't add up because his fundamental theory is flawed. But if you're confident in your ear training and you like the sound then go for it. I'm not about to enter a me vs x technical method battle with people sending me tracks haha. I've been releasing music for 10 years like this professionally to hundreds of millions of streams across accounts and it's literally paying the bills , I'm not seeking change because there's no problem right now. This video is not for comparing methods, it's to help those that are struggling . (And to clear up some misinformation) If you still have problems , i.e you don't trust your ear training yet and your releases aren't getting any plays then obviously start seeking changes sure you can definitely try my method it's a LOT less steps but only if there's a problem. Be careful off this academic back and forth of technical matters 'on paper', I see it everyday on gear space / Reddit and it's 99% hobbyists that have got obsessed with numbers instead of music , and usually don't actually release any music for a living. He also says: Baphomatrix's clip to zero involves pre clipping at channel and bus levels which only makes things worse imo (also in terms of digital sound science doesn't actually work as adding 2 clipped signals together = +6 which just creates more clipping)

Thank you so much for this! I've been producing for a just over a year & in the space of a few days watching your video, I've made a major leap due to this. I managed to hit my target on the 1st major track I made using a lot of concepts you discuss, prior to watching your videos, but through bad practices. It's good to know I was on the right path, but just needed a better understanding of what was happening. Your video has provided clear explaination of what I was doing wrong & how to fix it. Thank you again.

Problem is clipping can only happen once "at zero" As soon as you combine more than one clipped signal you are back over zero. So you end up clipping the clipping, creating harsher results (to my ears)

The idea is that after clipping a track, you would lower its volume in parallel to the mix. The goal is to clip every track, creating ample headroom to push your mix later without annoying peaks interfering with your limiter or clipper on the master. This approach allows you to achieve very loud masters without noticeable distortion since you’ve reduced the peaks in the mix that would otherwise cause the limiter to distort long before gaining any loudness.

Hey Bvphy! Probably going through the series for the 4th or 5th time lol, learn something new I didn’t catch every single time! This time I stumbled upon a question I’m always concerned with. Can you elaborate why you would increase your buffer size later on in mixdown? I thought it only decreased CPU load, which would be less important during final mix down, no? But if you’re suggesting to use the highest buffer possible during final mix, it leads me to believe it must affect the audio quality or something as well?

I appreciate the insights you bring. But at the end of the day the blunt instrument (soothe) sounds better than RESO to most listeners. Sure, it will depend on the rest of the mix, perhaps RESO fits better in it. But in your example, soothe sounds better in all A/B comparisons. It's louder and brighter and that is better. In your pinned post you say it's a knee jerk reaction, and maybe it is, but that doesn't invalidate it. Even when listening carefully, soothe sounds better.

Money better spent on VSX or plugins? My room will never be good, near a highway and airport (also hearing is trashed), but I also can't find any free clippers or saturators that sound good on my master bus. These videos have been huge, thank you.

overall, CTZ is definitely the winner. i think the -11 LUFS CTZ version sounds the best of all the comparisons. i think this might be because the -6 LUFS version gets pushed down by youtube itself. -6 LUFS sounds ok but there's a little less life in it, but it doesnt sound muddy or too squashed. that being said, both traditional limiter versions sounds very bad. the sub bass in the -6 LUFS limited one sounds like a square click lol.
