Kind of same situation here. But I have gained my interest from different source. I have born in 2003. I started to develop interest in 60s and 70s student protests in Japan though the books of Murakami. Specifically "Norwegian Wood". Even though I was expecting to hear a lot more about student protests but weirdly I have also found it interesting to listen your thoughts. Not sure if you still continue to record this kind of vlog, ( will check out your channel after watching part 2 about protests) but I will definetly check out rest of your channel

Thank you. I know I ramble on a bit, but I'm glad you found it interesting at least. The content of this channel has shifted a bit over the years as my interests have shifted. (I don't talk about the student protests so much anymore). But whenever I talk about a book or movie related it some way to the Japanese student protests, I put them on this playlist (some of these are only tangentially related): kzbin.info/aero/PLOY-0V_l_9x79GLWF3A4j-6Sz3v5O1fpQ&si=KgW7WAjk9Qu12QNj

Well thanks for the review. I skimmed through a similar book titled Teaching English One to One by Priscilla Osborne. I can see that it was roughly the same. The main challenging tasks for me are creating a placement test and other ongoing tests to ensure students about their progress. another thing that these books don't mention are course books that are suitable to be taught in one to one scenarios. most of the course books are designed with a focused on pair work and group work activities. Do you have any suggestions about course books that are meant for one to one teaching or are easier to be adapted to one to one teaching?

Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately I'm not going to be much help. Many years ago, when I was teaching in Japan, I did use a great book for teaching 1 to 1. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of it now (it was years ago.) But I do remember that right in the title, it had something about 1 to 1 teaching. It may even have been called "one to one" or something like that. So suitable books are out there somewhere, if you can track them down. But if memory serves, it was, however, only suitable for lower level students.

I would say it counts for Garbaugust. The author seems to have written more books than most (mass produced/pulp). The cartoonish elements of the book also indicate it's for pure entertainment. Still... the philosophical musings about eternity could give one an excuse to use the book for an essay (which you did) 😆. In any case, if you had fun, the point of Garbaugust was realized.

I like the avenger better maybe that’s just cause I’ve read More of his adventures. The. Docs . But doc does have two advantages on the avenger. In an issue of marvel comics two in one the thing got to briefly team up with doc savage and it was revealed the thing is a big doc savage fan or was back then . In of the green hornet chronicles collections it that Kateo was training a member of doc savage’s family in martial arts doc had long since retired but the fact some one had put him in this green hornet’s time line surprised me the book series is three volumes sorry a can’t remember what story it was mentioned in

In the early days of my book review project, I wish I had done a better job of keeping track of who the translator were. Now, when I do a review, I try and always list the translator. As much for my benefit as anything else. If I ever come back to a book years later, I want to see if I'm reading the same translation as before, or a different translation. This version, however, I do remember. It was from Bill Thayer's website, and it looks like the translator was Horace White. penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Roman/Texts/Appian/home.html Do you remember the names of the translators that you liked (and didn't like?)

Identifying the Mark of the True God's True People in our Present Day Let us cut down from all the dogma and the fact of discrediting the New Testament as I feel as though the vibe when I listen to those audio lessons of the history of the Bibe the making of the Christian Greek Scriptures. Let us focus on the identifying mark of the only true Christians which will be that they would have love among themselves. There is a prophecy found in (2Timothy 3:1) that says in the last days critical times hard to cope with will be here. And when we drop down to verse 13 says: But wicked men and impostors will advance from bad to worse, misleading and being misled.] However, that identifying mark of love will shine through like a beacon out of all this darkness of wickedness and all peoples will truly see who God's people really are on that very last day. The Counterfeit-Christians are the weeds, and the true genuine Christians are the wheat. -Proverbs 4:18; Matthew 13:24-30) True Christianity is Not Many Faiths but is Only the One True Faith. There are so many different faiths in the world. However, one scripture says in Ephesians 4:5 -that there is one Lord, ONE FAITH, one baptism.) Many people sometimes say that all roads or pathways leads a person to the true God. However, the same with many faiths of what peoples say that lead them all to the true God is absurd. (There is only one road that is called the way of Holiness and the only one true Faith is allowed to travel on it. All the other counterfeit faiths that is unclean and foolish will not stray on that Holy Road, they will stray on the broad and spacious road leading to destruction and many are the ones going into it whereas the only one true Faith are the ones only allowed to go on the narrow road and it is cramped with people who are the few ones finding it that leads to life and the only true God is the source of life.-Isaiah 35:8; Matthew 7:13,14; Psalms 36:9) The Only True Faith Represents God's Truth Which is His Word the Holy Bible and his Supreme Love Yes, indeed the only one true Faith represents the true God's light and his love. We must test the inspired statements of the only true Faith of its light and love to see if they originate with God. 1John 4:1 Says: Beloved ones, DO NOT BELIEVE EVERY INSPIRED STATEMENT but TEST THE INSPIRED STATEMENTS to SEE IF THEY ORIGINATE WITH GOD, for many false prophets have gone forth into the world.) So that identifying mark is the inspired statements which is the true Gods inspired word that is his light and also true genuine love. Both of these inspired statements are the identifying mark of God's only true people. Jesus said you are truly my disciples if you have love among yourselves. -John 13:34,35) The Love of God Means to observe His commandments and His commandments are not burdensome. -1John 5:3; Revelations 14:12. The love of God unites God's true disciples with genuine love by applying His commandments, and God's commandments is not hard for us to apply and to obey. Many people of different faiths are divided in thought because each individual of their own faith lean on their own each personal private interpretation. -2Peter 1:20) Rather be divided in thought the Holy Bible urges us to be in the same line of thought of the accurate truth from the Bible. -1Corinthians 1:10) Pray to the Only True God and Ask Him to Help You Find His True People in Present Day. Jeremiah 29:12 -And you will call me and come to pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 -You will seek me and find me, for you will search for me with all your heart.) 1John 5:14 -And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that no matter what we ask according to his will, he hears us.) Don't give up! eventually you will be among God's true worshipers does not this scripture feel comforting. This one right now I'm going to reveal which says in the book of John chapter 4 verse 23 that Says: Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for indeed, the Father is looking for ones like these to worship him.

I'm not sure what you had in mind for the discussion. I'm happy to discuss it here in the comments. Or you can find me on Twitter: x.com/JoelswagmanJoel

Thanks Joel! You mention the connection with Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. I only discovered Men Like Gods after researching BNW. Huxley's novel was a direct response to the naivity he saw in MLG; principally the notion that any society would naturally gravitate towards utopia. The concerns Huxley didn't address were those things you said you felt uneasy about...the eugenic themes. They are threaded throughout MLG and turned the novel from quaint Victorian speculative fiction to something I wouldn't care to read again. All the same, it's very interesting seeing how the two books are connected, and how widespread some very repugnant social ideas were in the early 20th century.

@@Celsius233ish I still have not read BNW, but I agree with you 100% on the disconcerting themes in Men Like Gods. If you can manage to track down a copy, you may be interested in The Intellectuals and the Masses by John Carey, which explores how prevalent these types of themes (i.e. the wrong type of people are breeding too much) were in British literature at this time. ...And perhaps this type of thinking is still prevalent. Thank you for the review. Tom Wolfe is known for "saturated reporting." It works because his fictions are about real people and real themes. They are not "two dogs and one bone" plotlines. The prologue itself defines the whole theme of the book. The theme here is how cultures spread or infect. The "theater" for this opus is an Ivy League school clashing cultures, and Charlotte is definitely the outlier. What I enjoyed about the book was how thorough he is with characterization; his punctuation is creative, and he fantastically breaks several rules to create a dynamic flow. If you want an author who gets straight to the point with immersive descriptions, read James Ellroy. YMMV Thank you for posting this.

Unfortunately I'm not in a position to say. I've only read the Moss Roberts translation. I can say, though, that the Moss Roberts translations is perfectly readable.

Glad to hear it's not just me. It seems so simple to read comic books, doesn't it? But then, I remember that everything takes time.
