Fantastic opening shot. 5711 & 8711 bookending the power there. Meanwhile that other train smoking 🚬 away quietly.

This was so much cooler when the SP ruled this area! Tunnel motors, mid helpers and a caboose or 2. Railroading had just become very stale but, my opinion only

@ sorry for being sour….your video is still very cool and I’m glad I saw it! Wish I had made that clear in my comment! Bealville had always been an interesting part of the west railroad world and still is! Unique as can be!

I hated coming down this hill in my big truck. Especially when we were dealing with 7-8% grades between Caliente & Bakersfield.

The Tehachapi Pass, where Bealville is situated, is known for its challenging terrain for railroads. Here are some key points about the grade in this area: • Western Slope: The maximum grade on the western slope of the pass, which includes Bealville, reaches up to 2.3% for about one mile east of Marcel. • Bealville to Tehachapi: Most of the line between Caliente (near Bealville) and Tehachapi maintains a grade between 2.1% and 2.2%. • Eastern Slope: On the eastern side of the pass, the maximum grade is 2.2%. Bealville Specifics Bealville itself is a significant location on this graded section: • Elevation: According to a 1982 SP timetable, the elevation at Bealville (around MP 340) is 1,740 feet. • Siding: Bealville features a 13,270-foot siding, which is the longest on the west slope of Tehachapi.

Coming down that pass heading west in a big truck is a pain in the ass as well, especially when we're dealing with 7-8% grades.

Impressive video that really provides a good appreciation for the local geography challenges that the original railway builders had to overcome. How unfortunate that it also shows the visual horrors paint-sprayed on railway cars by graffiti vandals. 2025/01/04. Ontario, Canada.

Thanks man and yes the graffiti seems to get worse everyday
@anthonygermano93632 күн бұрын
You are right about Graffiti, to me it just ruins the railfanning experience. Tag after tag after tag. What absolute Dog S-t. I wonder if these idiots tag their own property or automobiles that they own or rent. Why not? They are tagging everything else.

Are the locomotive s in a string, controlled by the front one for powering up and braking, and I suppose the middle and rear helpers are in radio link with the front crew.? Sorry I'm in the UK, we don't have anything like this over here.

I believe so. The helpers at the back were the only manned ones other than the lead engine

Bunch of hood doors open. Guessing there's a slight cooling problem. 3 SD40-2s for yard work sure is a lot of power for basic switching. He's either building the bottom end of ladder built trains for outbound or retrieving inbound tracks getting them set up for classification.

As an employee that has ran this length of track 15 years ago, I always have to laugh at the notion what people think trains length are. 😂 The public has No idea what they are talking about.
@thehighironАй бұрын
Apparently not. All I did was count the cars and everyone and their mother had something to say about even just that.
@diegohorton869Ай бұрын
@ I’m not going to correct you or anybody else. It’s just an observation that people are counting 3 or 5 packer as 1 car. It’s totally not as viewed from the side of the road. Look it up yourself.
