@@lostindesperation Because one would think he would have been happy at that time, getting back with his wife, having a kid, all that. Yet all these songs are depressing! Apparently Yoko was sleeping with another guy, in their own house! Sending him away, all the while he’s paying the bills. Yes indeed, strange…

He really should have done an album of just him with a piano, and a guitar. Minimal backing. Obviously, we all know what happened, but some of his earlier solo career was a bit overproduced.

If I'm not mistaken, this early version is from the Imagine sessions in 1971 and the drummer here is Alan White, not Ringo.

How did Producer Jack Douglas hear this and not suggest John record this for DOUBLE FANTASY album - If Paul, George and Ringo had heard this I think the Threetles would have recorded it

Kind of evolves their sound in a natural way for the times like the Anthology tracks did. They were very “30 years later” and were brilliant, but now 60 years later, it’s a legacy to uphold and close on, and unlike the official release last year, this feels like a modern take on/ evolution of their sound that doesn’t divert from their energy and feel. It’s beautiful man.
