John’s best songs are his demos. Double Fantasy is on par with some of his best work but you can’t tell because they were way overproduced and he had to split the album with Yoko.

He really should have done an album of just him with a piano, and a guitar. Minimal backing. Obviously, we all know what happened, but some of his earlier solo career was a bit overproduced.
