I think the darkest book I've ever read was Swan Song by Robert McCammon. Like you mentioned with at least one of the books in your video, it's dark because it highlights the potential for darkness in human nature, in this case in a post-apocalyptic future. It was the last book I read in 2023 and I really struggled with it at times.

I was making a face as you mentioned King. But then you mentioned "Pet Semetary", one of the small number of books and stories of his that I've ever liked. 👍 The scariest book pound for pound is probably "Legion", William Blatty's underknown sequel to "The Exorcist." It does not pour gore all over the place, but it does not have to, it creeps me out in numerous different ways and gets me wanting to consult a priest😸😁 Tender is the Flesh is obviously a club to beat people toward vegetarianism, but it is an effective one.

Idk if I have ever said this before, but I really appreciate how intentional and careful you are with your wording in reviews. I personally tend to go into hyperbole super quickly, and I find it really refreshing to see someone make such good distinctions between things you liked, enjoyed and loved! ☺ Anyway, definitely going to try out The Combat Codes, even though I am not the most action-driven reader out there. Also very intrigued by Who Is Maud Dixon? That sounds wild! 🤩 My standouts of September were Hell of a Witch by Rachel Aaron (I am LOVING the Tear Down Heaven series), Thank You For Listening by Julia Whelan and Of Love and Loss by BSH Garcia. Also listened to Dracula for the first time and that was such a pleasant surprise! 🥳

Wow thank you, that really means the world to me that my reviews bring value! I find when I watch reviews, I don't need the plot parroted back to me, I care about what the review enjoyed or did not enjoy to determine if the book is for me. Thank you again, your kind words made my week 💜 I agree, I don't typically love action scenes either, so I was shocked Combat Codes worked so well for me! Ooooh how special you got to experience Dracula for the first time! I love the suspense of that one, and what a perfect time of year to read it!
