Nice one, I did manage to pick up Henry VI (1422-1461) Penny of London Mint-Annulet issue 1422-30 before Christmas to go along with my Henry lll (1216-1272) London Mint, Long Cross Penny without sceptre. Long cross was introduced in 1247 to prevent clipping. I do collect more modern and silver and gold, but there is something about Hammered and early milled coins.

Wasnt it in 1816, Sir Issic Newton ruined the money by over valuing gold so all the silver got clipped cuz it was undervalue n could be sold for more, which led to the gold standard, then the Prussia war led to germany n france then the whole world adopting it, US farmers fought it demanding minting of silver n repeal the crime of 1873 act that demomitized silver for debts greater then 5$

The first coins were minted in 1816 but I believe the act of recoinage was 1817

This your coin? This is on my to get list. I own the 1668 in very fine. One thing I struggle with lately is trying to find out what these crowns could of afforded you back in the time of mintage.

It seems silly to me to do a date run when discontinued coins are so rare, and you are very unlikely to complete the date run.

Love the videos, the scales probably isn’t off, it’s just there is a bit of ware to the coins so you lose a few grams.

@ unless the coin you buy is in very good condition, always go by the weight of the actual coin rather than the standard weight. In my stack I have a spreadsheet with the actual coin weights and the silver weight so I can see how much I’ve paid for all my silver and compare it with current spot price.

I have one of these, its a later date, in a proof set. I think its a 1967, there's no shillings in the set but I am sure there is a Three pence. They aren't the most popular coin. I've a whole lot of British coins but only one of these.

You have a remarkable collection, especially as you have been collecting for such a short time-- it took me far, far longer to get all the copper and bronze pennies (and for most of that time i wasn't looking for any other denomination). You've got space to add the 1970 proofs for farthing, half penny and penny if you have loose ones of those as well.
@BitsAndBobsCoins3 күн бұрын
Thank you very much I will look out for the other 70 proofs

I actually have one, a very nice example from the Sydney mint - likely AU/UNC. Eddie sovereigns are good coins and generally most dates are easy to get by sovereign standards! Being in NZ, most of us are likely to have a lot of Australian minted gold coins as well as English coins. I suspect the Royal Mint when bringing coins to NZ, were stopping in Sydney on the way and Australian minted gold was added to the barrels of British minted Silver and Bronze coins.

Also have 1904, 07 and 10 London sovs, 1905 and 1908 Sydney and a 1905 London Half sovereign. All are quite nice, except the half, which like most half sovs, has a bit more (VF) wear.

Amazing collection, you have made incredible progress this year. There is a lot of great stuff I forgot you had and I love how you arrange it all. Its good to see the changes in those designs over the years. Again though my favourite coin is your 1662 Crown, that coin is just awe inspiring. Thinking of doing a similar thing with my British date runs. Except mine are in albums with plastic holders and pages. I see similarities with mine too - like 1860s dated florins (I have none between 1858 and 1870) and the sixpences (Just very few before about 1873). Your Threepences are streets ahead of mine, hard to get readable dates here before around 1885.

The roses and plumes are a provenance mark indicating that the silver for this coin was provided by the Company for smelting down lead from pit coale and sea coale. Silver was a by-product of lead mining. Generally roses indicate silver from the West of England and plumes indicate silver from Wales.
