Great group, my favourite is your Mary Groat, lovely coin. My favourite hammered is my Henry VII gold angel (6/8) which I got last year, a bit worn and bent, but a good coin with some clear design and no holes. Its dated to 1505 to 1509

Wonderful collection! I always try to buy ones that are either holed or clipped and chipped because the prices are always a bit lower that way and theirs no shame in that! I really enjoyed the aethelred coin you’ve got there! id be so happy for that one if I had it. The queen Mary is also amazing! My favourites in my collection are my QEI sixpence and my Henry VIII groat second coinage portrait. Great coins I really enjoyed watching 👍🏻👍🏻

I’ve got a King Edward I sterling penny and it still looks almost as good today as it did in the early 1300’s! What a neat little piece of history to hold. The price wasn’t bad considering my Queen Elizabeth I penny cost almost double for 1/3 the size!

I think it brings home how long some of the denominations lasted for. Centuries of history. For instance your Edward II Farthing from the early 1300's. The Last farthing of course was struck in 1956 and also struck in bronze, inflation finally making them of little use after centuries.

Take them all out the coin flips and buy a nice little wooden treasure box for them and chuck them in loose. Thats how I would store these old worn hammered coins, they wont really deteriorate because your not handling them all the time.

Do you think any of the three of you will collect Scottish hammered coins at some point in the future?

Any particular period? I've got some James 5, Mary and James 6.
@nor8588Күн бұрын
@@billwilliams8866 I am interested in the Tudor dynasty and the dynasties that came before and after it, so I have a Testoon of Mary Queen of Scots (1555), but I think the design of the James V coin is very stylish and I am interested in it. Also, the James III coin looks like a rock musician, which is cool.

I believe William of Orange, 1690 is the earliest Monarch I have. I think there's a couple of hundred years gap until the next one which is Victoria with the bun. I've a couple of Victoria's Sovereigns, bun and Vail. Then everyone else right up to the current King Charles. I have a 2024 1 kilo Britannia

@BitsAndBobsCoins I was quite fortunate and happened to know someone that won the coin in a raffle. They were offered a cash alternative of £800 so they rang me and asked if I would be interested. I nearly broke his arm. So I wouldn't have it had I had to buy it at the £1200 + that they retail at. It's a very nice piece to have in a collection but it's a bit of a liability. It's also a lot of money to tie up in one piece and it's a bit nerve wrecking handling it. I try and avoid handling it. I wouldn't let anyone who can't afford to buy it handle it either. There's only a couple of people know that I have it. It's quite unique, I know there's at least one KZbinr that has one, he dropped it and smashed the case. He was very lucky he only smashed the case. I think a new case cost him quite a lot. I don't know anyone else that has one. The mintage on them is extremely low, it's in the hundreds. It would be nice to have a stack of them lol.
@user-yx2ff3mv2q2 күн бұрын
@BitsAndBobsCoins KZbin censored my reply to you. lol that's crazy, I was only talking about that 1 kilo Britannia. They have become extra sensitive lately.

Any of William II (Rufus), Stephen, Richard I, John, Richard III and Edward V will be really hard. The rest you should be able to pick up a worn penny of theirs for around £100 or so. Figure 10x that for Edward V and William Rufus - 2 - 5x that for others. Anyone Henry VIII onwards should be quite easy (Except poss Queen Mary( and George III onwards will present no trouble). Luckily lady Jane Grey made no coins. The biggest difficulty is that most monarchs before Edward III you have just pennies and their fractions, even up to 1500 its only pennies/groats and their halves/quarters and the gold coins (Noble, half and quarter) and the gold is pretty much unaffordable. Elizabeth I is the first reign it gets better to find a coin from.

@@Moneytane1976 Thank you, the market for older British coins is much different in the US. Dealers don't seem to value Foreign coins in general as consistently as their US inventory.
