Super helpful. Thanks so much. Knowing that Leo is uncomfortable in the asana is, well, comforting. The cues to relax the hamstrings and lengthen the quads rather than tensing either of them were crucial points I was missing. How obvious in retrospect; how often we try to power through things unnecessarily.

What preparatory asana should be done directly before Bharadvajasana 2? I'm thinking of Baddha Konasana + Adho Mukha Baddha Konasana, but is there anything else?

Thanks for the question Sonia. In addition to the two asanas you mention, you could do a sequence that includes Vrksasana, Parsva Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana (and the Parivrtta version), Parivrtta Trikonasana, Virabhadrasana 2, Utthita Parsvakonasana, Bharadvajasana 1, Supta Virasana, Upavistha Konasana, (also the Parsva and Parivrtta versions) Janu Sirsasana and Parivrtta Janu Sirsasana. Don't always follow the same path; mix it up a bit and have fun! Let us know how you get on. Lin and Leo 🙏

Hello. This is the beginning of Urdhva Prasarita Padasana. In its more advanced form the legs are lowered, then raised, 30, 60 and 90 degrees. We hope this helps. Lin and Leo 🙏

That's a nice practice. I can't get my head to the floor while in wide legged forward fold because I have a short torso.

Hi Emmaelle. Thanks for the comment! Really don’t worry about getting your head to the floor. Support your head on blocks or folded blankets and work on lifting your legs. This is the key to eventually getting the head to the floor. It takes a long time but keep repeating the mantra “in order to go down, you have to go up”. With time, even those with long limbs can get into the pose! Let us know how you get on! Lin and Leo

thank you for a wonderful class.....just what i am needing. Finally coming back to Iyengar after years of frustration after knee and hip replacements and just feeling like i had to make so many adjustments to poses that it felt hopeless. Slowly starting back with your excellent beginner's class, I appreciate all your precise instructions, helping to bring back any muscle memory I have left from my former daily practice. Excellent.

Hello zmermaid. Thanks so much for the comment. We do know how difficult it can be after having injury and surgery, when the body is not as cooperative as it has been in the past. But even if you have forgotten yoga, yoga does not forget you. As you have found, the memory is still there in the body. Don't be too ambitious. Do a short practice consistently and you will be surprised at how soon the body responds. Hello katharch. Try taking your hands higher, to a table-top, desk or window ledge, with your arms straight, aiming to make 2 sides of a rectangle with your body. The legs as the vertical side, (perpendicular legs) and your torso and arms as the top side of the rectangle. Aim for a flat back and hold the action breathing into the tension and observing where the tightness is. The backs of the legs, outer armpits and/or the upper back are probable areas of tightness. Hold for 30 seconds to 1 minute and repeat this 3 - 10 times a day. Depending on the reasons for the stiffness, you should see an improvement after a couple of weeks. Once the body has started to release, you can try taking the hands down to the seat of a chair and see how it goes. Let us know how you get on! 🙏 Lin and Leo

Hello Reshma. At the beginning of this video, you can see that a belt has been placed over the door. It is possible to place the buckle of one or two belts at the top of a door and when the door is closed, (as long as you can be sure that the belts are secure), you can use these like the high wall ropes to get extension of the side waist in poses like Virabhadrasana I. For Adho Mukha Svanasana, (hips supported using the ropes), you can attach a belt to both sides of a door using the belt looped around the door handles. Again you need to make sure that the belt and the door and the handles are secure. There are a number of Iyengar yoga teachers/studios in Paris that should be able to help you if this explanation is a little difficult to understand but hopefully this will give you some insight into how to use belts creatively when you don’t have access to a rope wall!
