Very interesting video, I would like to learn more to make my own pipe. Can you please send me a private message to tell me what type of wood can I use to make one for myself. Thanks Mark from Malta

If you want to make anything decent, the only answer is briar, from the root burls of Erica Arborea.

Very nice, I have made a few pipes over the years, for myself and others. But not for a long time, I am not to stand for long, miss it though. I also flattened the bottoms so wouldn't roll about. Great work.

Greetings. sincere compliments for your magnificent pipes! they're really beautiful. but is a normal wood lathe suitable for making them? I'm talking about the home hobby ones. I would like to know if it was possible. A thousand thanks a warm greeting.
@MassisPipes5 ай бұрын
A metal lathe makes a lot of things easier and faster, but you can surely do it on a regular wood lathe or even without a lathe altogether!

I don't have a band saw so what I did was make a inverted mount for my jig saw and a vise grip for the trigger and it works just as good, just thought I'd put that out there for people who DIY😉

@ricat12599 ай бұрын
how about polyacetal pom rod, can it?
@MassisPipes9 ай бұрын
@@ricat1259 pom is self lubricating and useful for the tenon. It's not a good option for a stem since it doesn't polish as well, is less comfortable on the teeth and you cannot bend it into a shape. It could technically work for a straight stem but I'd advise against it.
@ricat12599 ай бұрын
Thank you for the explanation, because in my country Indonesia it is very difficult to find stem material like the one you mentioned

I've never tried using my gouges and chisels as scrapers. It works pretty well and you can't get the edge caught. A bit more sanding, I would think. Very pretty pipe
@MassisPipes10 ай бұрын
Be careful as you can most definitely get the edge caught. Metal lathes aren't really supposed to be used like this, but I do find it works fairly well.
