There are people who say that lenses are the best investment, over camera bodies. I tend to disagree. Buy an FX6 and rent the lenses that suit the character each job. If you hit a job where the client has an issue with using an FX6, rent an Alexa. If you don't have the budget for any of that, buy/borrow some cheap shit and learn your craft instead of obsessing over gear. Put it this way, if you're not working enough for a camera body like the FX6 being a smart purchase, the last thing you need is 15k worth of your own glass.

Self sticking window tint is cheaper than all that and would knock down the outside light.

You seem to be a very talented filmmaker. Why are you cheaping out on lighting? Lighting is so important in films .

Currently running RED Komodo with a full Meike S35 set and a 1/4 Glimmerglass has helped a ton!

For my mountain biking videos I think I will be sticking with 60fps or would you say 30fps might be better? It would let more light in too. KZbin accepts 60fps.

Depends of your line of work. I’m planning to get a mixture of the A and B set. I’ve got the 35 first, now I’m planning to get the 21 and 50, I’m not sure which first tough. (Maybe both and be a little broke for a couple of months XD)

To my untrained eyes, high-end video footage seems to be getting grayer in recent years. It looks muted and smoky. Ridley Scott's Napoleon, for example. The colors looked very washed out to me, unappealingly so, compared to Scott's earlier films. I realize one can bump up saturation and contrast in post, but I'm wondering if cameras themselves are producing more muted/gray images these days or is it purely a stylistic choice by filmmakers? Thanks.

Hi Ryan! Thanks for this great video! In France, I purchased this stand to a company named Rekt. The reference was 0B-2 Mobile. Do you have information about the way that you attached you camera ? I noticed that you removed the second half of the arm but I can't understand what you add to attach the ball head to it ? Any tips here ? Thanks for all ! 🙂

@yourhappyuncle6055Ай бұрын
You are just following a trend. Not all "cinematic" is soft, with imperfections or "character" whatever you want to call it. You compare solo shooters with the cinema industry, where a camera is controlled with a whole CREW not just one guy. Yes you can use a cinema lens if you want but for solo shooters in general it's not a brainer. if you don't have a 1st AC doing the focus puller, it's better to use auto focus. "You don't see a professional cinematographer using a photography lens" Lol you just said it, Professional, with a whole crew working in one camera. I understand you discovered cinema lenses and nothing wrong with that, and you like soft creamy hazy out of focus image. understandable but not all cinema/documentaries are like that.

The REAL cheapest mirrorless sony camera is going to be from the sony A5000 series of cameras or a sony a 6100 is often cheaper than a ZV, the ZV is the cheapest sony mirrorless film oriented camera.
