Last I saw Tom ass was still in 757 doing stage hand work and hopefully still performing. I miss playing melodica and singing along on his solo sets. The rest of the guys idk. As for me, Philadelphia mostly.

What did you cut it with
@TBoneProductionsVB3 ай бұрын
I used scissors but that's prone to cracking and not really recommended. A het gun or hair dryer to heat the area before cutting it with scissors would probably help prevent cracking. If you have a Dremel, drill or angle grinder there are glass cutting blades for those that will probably do the cleanest and quickest cutting. Otherwise using a glass scoring tool or razor to lightly do a first cunt then carefully go back through the cut a few times until you break through can be clean cuts too but maybe more time consuming than the motorized cutters.

So a little update I have used this kit for years mainly at this open mic that only has a tiny stage that my main kit physically could not fit on. I improved the kick drum by adding a port hole to the front head and added a foam ring around the hole. That helped get a nicer fat thump out of the kick drum. Overall I was able to get the tones of the kit to a place that sounded good to me just by taping and foaming the drum heads and putting them at their ideal tensions. As far as loudness is concerned size does still matter a bit so I do microphone the kit whenever I can so that it will be in the P.A. mix so if needed the volume can get a boost. I do this by setting up an SM58 facing the kit 6 inches from the top of the kick drum and tilted up a bit to catch the snare and tom a bit. On the sound board for that mic I cut the highs all the way down, the mids a bit down and the lows about all the way up. With that done I think it sounds pretty good.

Is there a video of how it sounds
@TBoneProductionsVB5 ай бұрын
Yes but not with good audio quality. My upload called The L Boze 7/19/2023 was me playing this kit at an open mic jam. The phone recording doesn't do it justice but it's the only recording I have up with the mini kit right now. I also didn't have the kit mic'd in it. I usually mic the kick and toms to have it in the PA mix. Whenever I take it out someone comes up and says they cant believe the little kit sounds so good.

Is there any way to retune this eaſily?
@TBoneProductionsVB6 ай бұрын
Does yours have an out of tune pipe? I think it is possible to retune but very difficult. I personally doubt I would attempt it. I guess you would need to carefully remove the glue holding the tuning stop in place and then steadily blow into the instrument with that key pressed so you can slide the stop in or out of the pipe to tune it. Then you need to seal the stop again.

@@TBoneProductionsVB It's in 12 equal, ſo yes, in that reſpect, they are all out of tune. I wiſh to put it in Pythagoꝛean tuning with C at 256 Hz. With four flats and one ſharp (F#). I do not owne this inſtrument, but aſking in caſe it could be tuned and then I would look into getting one. It is VERY hard to find a decent ſounding acouſticke inſtrument that can play at leaſt 3 notes at once in Pythagoꝛean iuſt intonation. Looking into a violin to ſtrum and pluck foꝛ this, but the coſt of one that ſoundeth decent is quite high. I alſo would want gut ſtrings on it, which is another complication the woꝛld ſeemeth to not eaſily handle without boat loads of money and acceſſe to a luthier, 2 things I don't haue at the moment. On this Andes 25F, if the ſtops were not glued, like is the caſe in a pan flute, the tuning could be done eaſily as it is (relatiuely) with them. It is a real ſhame on Suzuki that they went out of their way to make the inſtrument vntunable.

Cool mod. I'm curious about the battery. What is it and how is it better than 6 AA rechargeable batteries.?
@TBoneProductionsVB7 ай бұрын
It is a Battery Pack built by Tomsline to power guitar pedals so aside from one USB port for charging a phone it has 2 ports for the standard the power cable guitar pedals use so you can power a pedal board with it while busking or just to just have one less thing to plug in on stage. The Roland micro cube runs on the same power as pedals so it works great for the amp too. In terms of capacity one charge would outlast several packs of AAs so it's a huge money saver and convenience.

Have you tried it out yet? The Korg Nanokey is affordable and physically the easiest board to add to a guitar. Then just plug a phone into it to supply some midi voices.
@JustOneGuyMusic4 ай бұрын
I haven't tried yet but I was looking at the Korg before. I ended up installing an arcade button in the middle of the pick guard that triggers vocal harmonies so it makes the keyboard more difficult to mount and I probably would struggle to play it effectively anyway. I also discovered MidiGuitar 2. Replaced my EHX C9 & M9. It's like $20 for IOS version. I'm running split pickups into 2 old iPhones. It tracks really well and there are great free plugins for guitar sounds and keyboard sounds. Also responds to Midi Program Change commands sent from song sheet software.
@TBoneProductionsVB4 ай бұрын
@@JustOneGuyMusic that's awesome! Can you make a video demonstrating how yours works? Hey it's in the same vein of making a guitar a more capable instrument. I'm still reworking and refining my build. Currently I'm building a panel along the top of the keyboard with the guitars controls all in an neat line and ports with the wireless pack power, mode and battery levels visible all in one little panel.

I’m trying to come up with a solution for that weakass power button. I used to put my micro cube into my backpack and after about 4x going in n out of my pack the button broke. Recently purchased another nearly brand spanking new/old micro cube for $60 off a cool guy on craigslist and I want to protect that power button in the rear before I even try putting it into any bag. I’m always looking for low tech ways to improve things. Thanks for the ideas!

The lead vocal and guitar dude still has a successful band and career shredding as far as I can see. Unfortunately I lost touch with the other guys but I'd like to think they are still out there making music. Especially the bass player. Dude was my best friend back in highschool. The scene wasn't totally my thing but they were cool and one of the first bands I really filmed for. I wish I had their skills when I was working at NAMM.
