just a practice run. not a clean performance but I like it.
it's the original composition by Dougie MacLean with the string parts by Trevor Jones but stylistically I tend to change up the picking and chord patterns and speeds to a blend of world music. I guess part of the reason I'm keeping even this rough recording is that every time I play this composition I tend to play it differently stylistically based on mood in the moment and which instrument I am performing it on. I find the nylon strings on this ukulele give me a tendency to emulate classical and Spanish guitar styles whereas on my steel string acoustic mandolin I find I get a more Western feel and then of course with the solid body electric more jazz and rock influences slip in.
Speaking of rock there is a version of this song called Sail by AWOL NATION that I have been working on and with stylistically blend with Promontory and The Gael.
