What a week this has been! I survived birthday week, Open Studio Weekend and fired my kilns 7 times(2 bisque and 5 glaze firings!)
The Dare mug I made for my daughter turned out fabulous and she loved it. In so glad because it took 3 hours for me to paint the design on with underglazes. I didn’t all free hand and although I have pretty good drawing skills I only had one mug to put the design on so there were no second chances.
I finished the 7 carved Mishima mugs I’ve been working on and yes, I did finally clean off the big work table just in time for Open Studio! Now to try and keep it clean.
On a fun side note an acting troupe is rehearsing Jersey Boys across the street which will be opening in June at the Weston Playhouse. I am going to try and go see it and since I am letting them use my wifi maybe I can get a deal on some tickets lol.
What do you think about mini/micro pots? I think they are so fun to make them but since Mini Makr is no longer making their wheels I don’t have a good mini wheel to recommend. What mini wheel do you like?

Thank you Jessica, that was fabulous! I live in Daphne, Alabama and might never make it to Open Weekend, but this way I felt the excitement of it. ❤

Love the shelves you have for your underglazes and colours for earth! can you share where you got them?

These are from IKEA. They are the 12” Ivar shelf system and I added 3 extra shelves to them to hold more glazes!☺️

Why did you join the armed forces, where did you serve and how long did you serve,? I am only interested in why you left the force, you do not need to answer, I am an avid follower. But like a lot of people we do want to know how you achieved such knowledge in such a small time frame. As a potter in Australia we do not have all the glazes that you paint on or other low fired glazes. I have one kiln that fires to ^7 and the other fires to ^9.Our clay fires to 7/9 but it vitrifies at cone seven.I think that we have to go back and regulate both kilns, we do have some(as always) know better. I do really appreciate the other potters that you showcase, even as I will not embrace the glaze that you do.I put that rather badly, We have to get them from the USA and the freight is out of bounds ,in my club we have several different "potters". there are the Ceramic ones who buy items to glaze and paint on.And then there are folk who handbuild and also throw.And we make our own glazes, these fire to cone 9 and at the moment we are exploring ^6/7 . our kilns are getting old, one is about 25 years and the other ,it was gifted to us but has to be at least 10 years old. The larger kiln, we rewired last year( Cost $700) aud and the Cress we had a new relay , thermocouple and computer cost was ($1100.), I am very excited to make some pots to fire and glaze for the Cress. Sorry for the waffle but even at my age I want to learn more. I did 7 years at college and I am now 84y so you can tell I came to pottery late.

I was wondering how you made those gorgeous textured handles on your textured mugs? looks like the same texture.........
@JessicaPutnamPhillips

The textured handles are made with textured slabs made used to make hollow handles. I have a class and template on ClayShare that teaches how to make them. Here is the link: www.clayshare.com/videos/hollow-handles-tutorial It's a great way to get texture all over your mug!☺️

I LOVE these videos! Can I ask where you got your drying racks…. and do you like them sliding out sideways or front way? They give so much extra room! Wow

I’m so glad you are loving the videos! The shelves are rolling baking racks I got from Amazon. Then I cut 3/4” plywood into 24”x18” boards to slide into the racks. I like sliding front to back because its so easy to get ware in and out of the racks.
