the Leyndell interiors are just amazing. even the rundown roundtable hold, there's something cozy about these places. makes you wonder what it'd be like living there. of course, with 60 vigor and a permanent opaline bubbletear

Many people feel nostalgic when listening and taking in the scenery that is Farum Azula. Though I am sure a lot of people had left that useless question: why do I feel this way about a place I have never been? The true answer? The music. If there is one thing about Elden Ring, that without a doubt will amaze any player is the level of detail in the music. You don’t need to be an expert, or even a musician to understand, you know it’s incredible, just from how it makes you *feel.* If music can make you feel something, then that music is extraordinary. That is the purpose of every bit of music, to make you feel emotion. In the case of Fromsoftware music, their tracks aim to make you feel specific emotions, so that you can understand the character of who or what is in front of you. that is what makes their tracks so brilliant compared to the traditional 8-beat measure. But what does Fromsoftware’s brilliance in music have to do with what you are feeling now? As I said before, many have said they feel nostalgic when listening to Farum Azula, this nostalgia is intentional. They are purposefully making us feel nostalgic, but why is that? Why do we feel such euphoria when witnessing this place. Well, that lies in the lore of the location. Farum Azula was once a great, glistening city of gold and stone, ruled over by fierce dragons who brought with them eternal storms. Spectacular battles between the Dragon lord and his enemies were met upon this ground, many tall tales originating from here, a place so ancient it ruled before the glistening Erdtree centuries before. There is a great legacy to this location, such rich history, yet it now lies in ruins high above the clouds. A place that was once great, now left in ruins. Much like that of old cities in our world. You are meant to feel sad or even longing when viewing the vestiges of a once great location. It reminds you of how things were once great, how important that greatness was, and how it one day fell into ruin. Forgotten by time immemorial. There is nothing wrong with this. It is natural for things to one day fall, crumbling, fading even. All things die, even memories. Or for some of you, those you would call family. That is why this music brings out those memories… Of loved ones, of important memories, of moments that changed the course of your life. Farum Azula is a crumbling city from an old world, much like the past world we all miss, lost to time forevermore. Thank you, dear readers, for taking the time to read. Now, I hope you can get some sleep. There are bigger things than the past that await you.

Probably not many people will agree or even read these thoughts. But I think the Idea, the concept of Leyndell, and specially the music theme, resounds very well with the spirit and architecture of Latin American capital cities: The echoes of a royal past, etched within old buildings and architecture that slowly degrades at the passage of time and devoid of strong rulers to rekindle that magnificence. Nowadays corrupted and left in disarray by some "rulers".

I remember entering the city for the first time and feeling...melancholy. A grand city reduced to a husk of what once was, under the shadow of the imposing, golden Erdtree. No citizens walk the streets. Only soldiers of a lost order. Moving through the city I remember seeing so much ash and decay against the golden luster of the rooftops. The great Dragon corpse of Gransax sitting atop a large swath of the city. Eventually I made my way to the capital building, defeated the golden husk of Godfrey, slew the Black Knife Assassin that guarded the Queen's Bedchamber, and settled at its site of grace. I stayed in Marika's bedchamber for quite a while and just couldn't get over the feeling of sadness. There was no life here. Queen Marika lay within the Erdtree, eternally captive for her shattering of the Elden Ring. The stone tablets of her Golden Order piled high on her bed only to collect dust and crumble in the breeze. The music, faint but following me as I walked to the outside balcony and presided over the Lands Between, mourned. Marika remains an elusive but enticing figure to me in Elden Ring. I never finished the game, mostly because I just got tired of it, but the wandering questions I have about her have kept me invested in the lore. Thanks to Vaatividya, the lorekeeper of Elden Ring on KZbin, some of my questions have been answered. Still, I wish there was a cutscene of us and Marika, or of just Marika herself, set before the shattering. What must her Golden Order have been like? We shall never know...
