If you want to shoot with a M6 get a double show mount for a viewfinder and external meter. It will change how you see the world and it will help you shoot. Ive been shooting with my M6 since 1994. Ive had other cameras. I aways come back to my Leica.

at 9:22 there IS a reason for the 1/8000 thats for landscape shooting, in bright light, its the extra 2-3 stops of light, so this means we can use f5.6, f3.5 or more open in these conditions giving shallow dof, the fast aperture is not just for low light!; this improves the creative choice we have when shooting.

at 7:28 NO, from what I understand the Leica R8 is like the Hasselblad H's, and Bronica ETR's, they have an electromagnetic shutter, which needs batteries to work, the Leica M3-M6 need their button cell for the meter alone, not for winding or shutter operation, the M5 & M7 does need a battery for everything; from my research on KZbin and at the camera stores.

this is the why we use 'dummy film' to start learning!, so we learn the first step of film transport, is to do it slowly, AND if ANYTHING is hard... STOP, and find out why?, for film lever, it comes to an abrupt HAULT, so stop, and hit the rewind button!, the film is only on the spool in the canister by tape!- so one can rip it off in the darkroom. Another tip, DON'T rewind fast, it causes static to build up, discharging across the film!- think a waltz, 1++2++3++ and don't get a turn done in less than 5 sec. thats too fast.

great video, but one point not said, in the intro, for this system, you have Auto program modes, but AS its a slr, the metering is TTL, a common truncation, which means Through The Lens, so any filters you add, are AUTOMATICALLY accounted for!!, so if it says 1.5x that is done by the meter, no need to do it mentally!, YAY

I got the 28 'cron and the 50 'lux aspherical silver for 5K euros, so I've always underrated the Summicron and actually preferred the 28 Elmarit (pre-a)spherical, but I saw a really nice old shot of mine and thought wow, and when I checked, lo and behold, it was the 28 cron, so thanks to you, I will stick on one of my Ms and try and do justice to it. Great b&w shots, by the way.

I love an 85mm…the compression is where it’s at. Plus I like the tight framing because I think too many street photographers don’t pay attention to peripheral distractions that creep in with wider focal lengths…

I am currently using gr3 pair with my leica M11 with 50mm summilux, this pair gives a lot of flexibility in terms of strees photography. M11 60MP resolution pair with summilux 50mm asph gives quite bit of ability to crop as well as lowlight capability and gr3 can pull it off from pocket quickly and small camera is very stealthy in certain situations such as in side of trains or shops.

Had to stop in the first 20 seconds when I saw you put your thumb near the shutter curtain 🫣 As I'm sure other comments will point out it isn't necessary to line up the film like this, the base plate will do it for you.

Just for shIt$ and giggles, I went to see what Ken Rockwell had to say. He's not impressed with the Summarit line. His recommendation is to buy a used older lens for best bang for your buck.

I definitely prefer shooting wider (35 and 50). I used the 75 APO for a month and it became my favourite glass by Leica ever. But it was really difficult to focus. I have been using the 90mm elmarit for two weeks now, and surprisingly, find this easier to focus than the 75 APO. I don't know why haha.

What I love about telephoto lens are the compression and juxtaposition you can create. Gotta love the emphasis on how small the subject is and/or how big the backdrops are

Apparently having 1.4 leica magnifier attached, helps tremendously with composing on longer focal lengths. I haven’t tried it myself but many people recommend this.

I just spoke to a friend about this and I’m thinking about picking up a Light Lens Lab 1.4x magnifier. Might be the last piece I need

@whoschrischu if you do it, let people know if it helps, this may be a game changer. I’m planning to buy 90mm Elmarit later on but these tight little framelines are successfully keeping me on postponing the purchase 😆

Very cool to hear your take on this 😊 As an introvert I prefer shooting longer lenses on the street, but haven’t tried anything longer then 50/60mm. Also I think with 75mm I prefer SLAs, although I love shooting with my MP and M3 😊 Happy new year and awesome videos as always mate!

being farther away, for sure, helps me with my anxiety with street photography too. it def feels like a vacation from my regular process. SLR's are really nice for these tighter focal lengths for sure, which is why I have my R8 on standby haha

One thing I love about fast telephoto lenses is how they can make subjects look small in comparison to the environment. The background blur makes the subject get a little of that “tilt shift” effect and makes them look small in comparison. I’ve heard many times that my photos makes the subject (which most of the time aren’t humans, just nature things) look like miniatures. By the way, are you on Cara? I’d love to follow you there and see your work! I don’t use Instagram anymore because I freaking hate it.

Love longer focal lengths like this. On my Fuji I used to have a 75mm equivalent lens that was so fun! Right now my favorite prime is a 135mm f2 (200mm ff equivalent), it’s incredible! It’s just great to be able to exclude clutter from your frame with longer focal lengths.

I have the 75mm Summicron, and as good as the glass is, I rarely use it. It’s like you said, hard to compose in the small frame lines. I always seem to miss the “bigger picture”
@whoschrischu15 күн бұрын
yeah it def feels like a diff ballgame with this focal length. personally, it's harder to sync with the 75mm because I haven't consumed a lot of photos of this frame, so it's lowkey hard for me to even imagine what I could get that feels "right" to me. Also the 75 Summicron looks like such a nice lens

@@whoschrischu in fairness, I think he was mostly known for using a 135mm, but I think there’s a lot to be learned from his approach and his choices when it comes to street comps with a longer lens.

@@ErikFritzWasn't it a 85? 😉 He used all kind of gear, actually. To quote him: "I liked different lenses for different times. I am fond of the telephoto lens, as I am of the normal 50 mm lens. I had at one point a 150 mm lens and I was very fond it. I liked what it did. I experimented a lot. Sometimes I worked with a lens that I had when I might have preferred another lens."
@ErikFritz15 күн бұрын
@@LordPhilOne I probably shouldn't have said "mostly known"... I heard that once (and can't remember if I read it or saw it in a video) and it resonated with me, so it's much more likely that he's mostly known *to me* for using a 135! 😉 But, as your quote attests, he was known to use longer lenses on a pretty regular basis, so I hope my point remains essentially valid.
