I think you hit the nail on the head on the difference usually it’s the same style of photography but the different is documentary in long term to tell a story and you become immersed in the subject and get to know the subjects of your story while photojournalism is more just bearing witness and is more detached

The canon cp1500 is great for what you're using it for. People are almost always shook when receiving them, like, "wait.. the photo is on PAPER and I can HOLD it? whaaaat?!" Another great video, dude.

Thanks for making this video friend. I had to move my parents out of Manhattan chinatown during covid, my father got paralyzed in maryland down here with me and now i'm his full time caregiver. I haven't been able to go back to my hometown to walk the streets again. Thank you for this. It means a lot to see everything every so often.

Back when I started photography and was googling how to keep me inspired or improve my photography, working on a project happened to be on that list of things I could do. After watching this video, it does reinforce that point because it separates those who just take pretty pictures vs those who care about the medium and the community.

From what I see you had also a wider angle on your GFX :) ? Black and wide close portrait looks like it @ 8:43 . I love you channel Chris, music vibes, photos, you make me pause / play to see your photos. I dig the energy and thanks you so much for sharing all of your knowledge with us !

Great video exploring this topic! From what I have learned, the main difference between Photojournalism and Documentary Photography is yes duration and also the type of commission. I think that really most photojournalists are contracted by a news network, newspaper, or even conservation organizations. Documentary photography I feel is more personal and personally commissioned. Something that the photographer is personally interested in researching and photographing. That's why Doc photography interests me so much as there is so much creativity and freedom with it. As with Photojournalism, its focused on one quick snapshot series of an event that you may feel completely detached from. Dan Milnor has a ton of information on it as he's been in the industry his whole life and has a lot of good insights on differences as he has done both.

Nice video Chris. Looking forward to seeing more of this process of you telling this story. I live just up the street from that East Broadway underpass mall and have always been really curious to know more about it!

I'm French, not Asian in any way, but I love NYC, especially Flushing. You definitely need to learn about a guy named Jason Wang. Success story of a guy who adapted family recipes to the ingredients he could find in NYC. This man now owns about 15 restaurants in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queen's. Best food I've ever eaten. I go there almost everyday since I landed here for my vacations. The original noodle shop is in Flushing.

Okay, so two Chris's posted videos about the Fuji GFX 100 today and both of the videos are under performing. Does youtube have an issue with the GFX100? Chris Hau is the other one and this and your video deserve way more views at this point. Great video Chris.

Love what you're doing, but I have to question what you're doing it with, that chunk of a camera is hugely conspicuous, great that you have a one, but might put people off.

Sorry to be little bit disagree... with your statement about photojournalism and documentary. Time spent on a project has no link to which one is photojournalism or documentary. Main difference is photojournalism must follow some ethics rules (no stage picture except portrait, no doctored picture or photoshoped photography), documentary is more "free" and can i have artistic/author way to process. Chris Morris from VII is a good example of photojournalism and documentary photographer on long term project. Morris is a hardcore old fashion photojournalism, but with his books "Americans" an "My America" he produced a really strong "amercain documentary school" photo essay. But the most imporatn at the end is, for me, commitment. Photojournalism, documentary, wire news photography.... etc a project became interesting because of the commitment of the photographer. Some stories need years, some stories need days... but you always find commitment, respect and share inside good projects. Sorry for the long text.

Photojournalist have a shorter life span. Food, photograph the food, I mean the real food, not Panda Express stuff that they try to pass off. Food is a huge part of culture, from the food itself to the way different cultures interact at the table. I had no idea what Jian Bing was until a month ago when another channel highlighting Chinese culture showed it. Great video by the way Love the visuals and mixes between you in front of the mic and footage of Chinatown.
