Love that everyone has their speciality coming here to Tokyo. Your metro shots show such an eye for moments and space there. For me, it's shrines. I can spend hours in the details of a small space no bigger than my apartment. Spent a couple weeks in Taipei with the Ricoh GRIII too, the spaces over there are incredible. Enjoy your stay, and it's great to see the first time experience again so thanks for sharing. ✌️

Nice vid & photo's! Japan is amazing. I'm fortunate enough to have visited twice. First time in 2010, also my first trip outside of Europe. I felt like Alice down the rabbit hole - it was quite an experience. I shot on colour film, mostly with a 40mm lens. But my favorite shots were on black and white, during my second trip, with a 50mm. I admire your work with the 28mm. it's a great match for the crowded cities in Japan!

Big tip: try to find spaces before firing candids. There is so much to look at, that if you don't have a great scene to work with you will come back with so many reactive images to sift through. 😂

Dude, this video was awesome! It’s evening now in Germany and Had a busy day. Kids are now sleeping and this video helped me to calm down and get some rest. Thanks for sharing your experience! I visited Tokio once, but back then I wasn’t into photography. Today a trip to Japan would be a different experience with the camera :) Are you shooting on these trips exclusively on film? Not sure, if you still have the M10, but no digital camera for photography? Can’t wait for the next videos 🙃

wow I'm glad my videos are relaxing haha and yes I'm exclusively shooting film for photos

Been waiting for your Japan vlog! 🤣Agree on the high stimulation due to people density in tokyo 😩, but still, a very unique experience. Really appreciate your film photos! They're 🔥.
@whoschrischuАй бұрын
Thank you for watching! Yeah geez, I’ve never felt overstimulated by crowds before in my life until I spent those days in Shinjuku (NYC on steroids) but I need to go back and examine Japan differently
@xyzariveraАй бұрын
@whoschrischu amen to that! I intentionally avoid the crowded spots, but it is a rite of passage for everyone i guess 😂 there are definitely a lot of things for you to discover here in Japan! Especially outside the usual cities. Looking forward to your next adventure here 🔥

Absolutely loved this one mate. Beautiful shots. Can't wait for the streets and eats vid! Quick question.....the M6 you shoot flash on....is that an M6 classic or TTL?
@whoschrischuАй бұрын
@@shanestorozukphotography classic, my guy. Don’t get the TTL cuz once the electronics of the TTL break (which it will), it just becomes a classic again

Asian urbanity is on another level. NYC is the only Western city that is somewhat similar in terms of the energy and chaos, but still not comparable to the large cities of Asia.

What camera and lens do you use to shoot your videos?
@wojt4spesАй бұрын
Did you push tri-x? There are some internal shots with artificial lighting, like elevator for example, hence I wonder. Must have been really slow shutter + push?

Hey Chris, Great video by the way! Just wanted to ask you, I'm travelling to Japan next week ?(first time as well and very excited!!) and I was thinking of bringing my film camera. Did you get all your film rolls hand checked through customs? Or did they scan them? I've heard scanning or x-rays damage the films. Enjoy the rest of your trip. Cheers Jim
@whoschrischuАй бұрын
we got a first timerrr!!! I got all my film hand checked by customs, just put them in a clear plastic bag and say hand check and they're always courteous in handling it, never put it in an x-ray no matter how small (and esp if the xray looks huge, has LED lights, or looks like a jet engine)
@noonitubes8457Ай бұрын
How did you handle transporting the exposed negatives back to the US? Did you get it hand checked to avoid scanners? I've had so many rolls ruined from modern day airport carry on scanners...
@Awayne429Ай бұрын
I loved Japan, it was so disappointing coming back to San Francisco and getting on the Muni lol one thing I found out the hard way in Japan, don’t forget your film because not only is color film expensive (especially 120) it is very difficult to find in Tokyo without having to by a pack. Porta 800 (120) was $181 USD, It wasn’t until I went to Kyoto where I found lomography affordable enough to buy. Also the film camera stores in Japan were so expensive compared to the states (KEH).
@whoschrischuАй бұрын
Muni & BART are definitely going to disappoint after the Tokyo metro lol Asian public transpo is so efficient, but yeah Kodak being a USA product would make sense why it's cheaper in-state and exp out

I don't know if you have the subject's permission (if not), but I'm jealous that you can take a street photo with their face in it. Where I live, you could be sued for violating their right of publicity.

I don't ask for permission for taking photos, I'm just boldly snapping away. I do understand my privilege of doing so, as well

There’s no law for requiring it in Japan or anywhere in Asia
