I feel your pain as I’m about to embark on a similar repair on an early 900 Aero. The burning of skin and hair truly turns me off but I have to bite the bit as we do. Brilliant video.. 👍👍 kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKbQhqaHp6pknJIsi=Cn9p_mCw8d7MEc4S

Hello! Considering your experience with 99 Turbos, do you prefer injection with your 99 B-engine or carburetion? That is, if you look past your mild indignation towards Strombergs ;)

That is my Turbo. I sold it in 1991 after 5 years of ownership. It’s rare due to the colour and I put the Aztec wheels on because it had the horrible metric rims/ tyres on it. I’m floored because I’ve looked for it for ages and it’s now in the UK. WTF.

To get lower co on a stromberg you just adjust the hight of the needle :) i am running 9.0% on my daily and just adjust the needle at the MOT :) the carb on my daily has done 365000 miles without a rebuild. It is worn but does 0.3 co if you adjust the needlescrew.

I had a white1976 99 turbo LHD in Germany when I was in the forces. Drove it to what was then Yugoslavia in 1978 and '79. Definitely the best and most comfortable car I have ever owned and I had another 7 SAABs after that one. I wish I could buy a set of those aero wheels nowadays.

I have a 1976 Saab 99. I'm rebuilding it, and might run into this issue. Would this be my work around or was this not an issue for the 99 and just the 90? Thanks.
@britishswedishresto9577

A 1976 99 will have the B20 engine so this won't be an issue with yours. They only shrunk the servo from 1982 onwards when the H engine was introduced it seems

Enjoying this series so far, also looking for a 99 to call my own. Do they all rust this badly? And what plans if any do you have for preventing future rust? Any car I get would be a summer driver only but still I'd probably try and get rust primer on all inside surfaces, and 2k epoxy primer on all external surfaces that get refinished, and a regiment of underbody coating every year, like Dinitrol ML.

I think you shouldn't cover the wheel arch edges with plastic. It is a perfect foundation for moisture and dirt to collect. You will have much better success in keeping it clean and dry without that crap on.
@britishswedishresto9577
@britishswedishresto9577 Жыл бұрын
For the sake of originality they'll be having the plastic trims put back on but with plenty of waxoyl behind. Also on a classic, people are generally much more conscious about keeping them clean
@VNAV_PTH
@VNAV_PTH Жыл бұрын
@British & Swedish Resto I understand. If I remember correctly the lower small plastic parts are riveted to the arch, but I don't remember if the larger curved plastic are press fitted?
@1873Winchester
@1873Winchester Жыл бұрын
You should fill the plastic trim with vaseline and it should be taken off and cleaned and new vaseline added on a yearly basis. In Finland there is a company that makes an aftermarket trim from PVC that is easier to install and remove, sold by the meter.
