good call's on warhammer dear. 👍 no one knows whats going on with Titus's storyline, we know he is resistant to Chaos, and now we know he knows no fear. we also know that the Emperor has spoken to him telepathically (the emperor is uh.... sort of a corpse... ish? his soul is still alive and he rarely talks to anyone, like for hundreds or thousands of years.)

20:00 You want to see "wants it to be done"? If you ever get deeper into the lore, look into Dante, chapter master of the Blood Angels. Dude has been a space marine for 1600 years,WITHOUT going into stasis for long periods, and he wants to DIE. He even comes EXTREMELY close to death at one point and sees a vision of Sanguinius, his Primarch (a son of the emperor and source of his chapter's geneseed), and Dante is just like "Yes! Please! I'm so Emperor-damned tired, I want to be done!" only for the vision to tell him the Imperium still needs him and cuts to him being revived. I think he was even screaming "NO" as he was revived. Also, a thing to keep in mind is that Blood Angels have an issue where they will eventually go crazy and Dante has managed to keep that at bay for a LONG time, adding to why he's so goddamned tired. When the Primarch of the Ultramarines returned and met Dante, even he went "Holy shit, you're old. In fact, stop kneeling. You've been doing this long enough that I'm going to treat you as an equal/peer."

The really cool thing about 40K is that morality is very grey and subjective: you're not supposed to point at a faction and say "oh they're the good guys here!" That's not what's going on. The universe is vast, people are complicated, hell is real, demons are real, aliens are real, everybody's doing their own thing, and humans are too busy trying to survive than worry about luxuries like ethics and moral justification.

Space marines don't retire, you're going to find out so much about it in the near future. This is going to blow up like the original star wars or lotr, They are bringing out series and movies soon. Warhammer 40k has been around since the 80's, has a massive following and now amazon games workshop and Henry Cavil are about to make something epic. Games workshop and Henry have made sure amazon get no rights to change or make warhammer woke. They refuse to work with Amazon if they want to change things and make them gay.

On the "who to root for" All factions in 40k are evil, but generally Chaos (the forces that corrupted those people that were living on that planet) are more evil than the Imperium. So in this setting, I was rooting for the Space Marines. Also because the guy called Titus is the Main Character from some of the games, so always have a soft spot for him Obviously just cause a faction is more good, doesn't mean people will always root for them. Every person in the community has factions or armies they like the most, or collect etc. and may root for them But yeah, me personally? I'll usually root for the better (closer to good) of the factions in a situation. So if this was the Imperium vs the Tau, I'm rooting for the Tau. If the Orks or Tyranids are involved I'll always root for either of them, as they're just hungy bois who need their food. Both the orks and tyranids are vicious but it's part of their instincts, the orks for reproduction as they're a fungus that grows via blood, and the Tyranids, as they're fluly just animals who kill for food

Funny enough Armored Core predates Halo by 4 years. It's mostly based off Armored Core 6 which is a different story than the other 15(?) games but the overall theme of Armored Core is the player is a mercenary mech pilot fighting for cooperations doing morally dubious jobs to just get out of debt. It also has a lot of themes about the danger of the status quo, corporate greed and the dangers of AI. Really kind of the opposite themes Halo has going for a lot of it.

Even though black don't crack, Astartes service is for life and they can live for 100s of years because their biology is enhanced, only in honorable death is there duty to the God-Emperor of Mankind done. The animation gets a lot across about Titus throughout in such small ways. The way he leaves the sarcophagus behind and rushes into battle alone and receives that apprehensive look from the other Astartes when its' handed back before they continue, you don't have to know that the Ultramarines value tactics and rules to know he's the maverick of the group. The first Astartes to fall pulling himself out of his Power Armor and crushing his own head evokes a sense that Astartes are still human even behind their dedication to dogma, genetic superiority over normal humans, something dark is pushing Titus scarier than a Tzeentch demon that can weaponize fear against you and that sort of devotion is what makes the Imperium of Man so terrifying to begin with. With what they face daily and all sides and from within, humanity should have fallen thousands of years ago, though we are born prey there is something tenacious and predatory in humanity itself that makes us just as fearsome to our unforgiving environment as it is to us.

"Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure." is how the Imperium of Man deals with most things touched or consumed by the Warp. And they're not wrong. The fact that they're only sending a local nuke means they're confident that the corruption is fairly well contained. On occasion, the Imperium will *destroy* an entire planet to cleanse corruption - even one that has billions living on it. Sometimes especially one that has billions living on it, as that's potentially millions of corrupted troops for the Worse Guys (there are no good guys in WH40K).

@@AishaWilson The entire setting dials things up to 11. Humanity is not alone in the stars, and pretty much everything else out there wants to eat their faces. Even those aliens who could be allies - Tau and Eldar - never pan out long term because politics never stop politic-ing. On all sides. The best that can be hoped for is to stop smashing each other on the head with clubs for a minute whenever something extinction level like the Tyranid show up, because you can't fight over resources if you're both dead.

Considering I've known about 40k for around 30 years I'm impressed with how accurate a lot of your takes were here. It also shows how well done this short was. The space marines are conditioned to "know no fear" meaning to show absolute courage but it was only Titus (the child) for whom this was truly natural. The others are fearless in battle but still have fears which were exploited by the sorceror. The first was concerned he wasn't strong enough outside of his armour and the second was afraid his former charge would turn against him to evil and eventually kill him.

in Crossfire there are two Organizations there, Global Risk and Black List. Global Risk is a giant private military corporation without national identity. It is composed of former members of special operations forces and its stated aim is to impose order in an increasingly chaotic world by any means necessary. Black List is a secretive mercenary organization that advocates the use of violence to halt the spread of corporate capitalism and globalization. They claim that current world powers have used aggressive foreign policy to maintain modern empires, and will use any means necessary to combat their expansion.

Yep so Titus the kid did indeed prove himself in a way to the old man and that was indeed supposed to be a bit of a hopeful turn around for him. Warhammers schtick is a war between men and demons, and in this depressing setting many humans actually turn to the dark side. So the old mans fears are justified. But i think he saw at the end that the kid might actually be humanities salvation, a leader for good. Notice how Titus at the end didnt look prideful or anything. He looked at him with compassion. So the kid might not know fear, might be capeable of tremendous feats, but he seems to wield it in service of the ones he wants to protect. And thats the quintessence of Titus' character in the game too.

You're entertaining!! Will check your reaction to Another World, and Armored Core (my favorite episodes) and might subscribe! Btw, Astartes don't talk during missions in lore because they're SO in tune with each other during fighting that they don't need to. Astartes are the Ultimate soldiers of humanity! May I make recommendations? "Astartes" KZbin series is made by one of the guys who did the episode you watched. Also, I highly recommend Bricky's "Warhammer Factions" series (2 parts). In this universe Hell is real. The older marine was afraid that the child he found would be corrupted by the forces of hell and become evil. You see this when the demon gets in his mind and the child manifests into a corrupted marine who then tends him w his claws. A man w no fear can easily be turned to evil.

LOL, Space Marines don't retire. Commander Dante of The Blood Angels is the oldest fully active Space Marine, is over 1,500 years old, but the absolute oldest is over 10,000 years old. The Irony is without even knowing the lore you summed up why this universe is so shitty when you were talking about Religion. The old man's Fear is that the Child would fall to the powers that made the Demon sorcerer they just killed. If you are interested in the lore, I highly recommend Bricky's Every Faction Explained Videos Parts 1&2 they give a solid foundation on the Universe.

Wanted to add some lore to your analysis. They are space marines, they are genetically engineered humans made by the technology of the empirium of man. They are recruited, kidnapped, or volunteered and then weeded out for the weak and then they go through the process of adding additional organs, special organs, and a genetic organs called geneseed in this case from their primarch of the ultra marine, these modification made them live longer, powerful, rarely sick, no sex drive, and with their training and conditioning should have no fear. The one who narrates is a Sargent with 400 Year of service and the one who recruited Lt. Titus (The kid that has no fear). His fear was that Titus will became a heretic and join the "archenemy" the thing they are fighting (which space marine can become a heretic)
