The first marching baritone I ever played was the Bach Mercedes produced version of this horn. Absolutely loved it. Definitely a reason why I prefer Yamaha marching brass today.

Wonderful sound on both. Some of the best bass trumpet playing I’ve heard. Robust and convincing low end where others sound flabby and exasperated. That low pedal on the E-flat sounded huge. I think I much prefer the sound of the E-flat. More nimble in the high end and authentic “trumpety” sound while still having plenty of power in the basement.

Thank you!! I definitely prefer the Eb as well, and sold the Bb not too long after I recorded this. Despite being a 4th higher, the Eb has a much easier low register than the Bb did. Just a much better instrument all around.

I wonder often about swapping the receiver (and maybe leadpipe) to take trumpet or tenor horn mouthpieces. I think it would be a cool F alto trumpet.

Great sound! I just received a 6E as well (although the difference with the 4E is hard to tell if you don't have them both together). Unfortunately it came without mouthpiece. But thanks to you I now ordered a Mellophone mouthpiece. Hope it fits.

Yep! I got it at the end of last year, replacing my 1971 Holton H178. The Eroica is so free-blowing, I love it!
