Kewl build In the early 90's, I built a stock valve 35.5x32 Tom Kirker ported dual port heads with Gene Berg 42 DCNF and Gene's 42 DCNF Specials using phonelic .75" (19mm) thick spacers mounted under the carbs, 90.5 Cimas dished by Mark Voegtly, Engle K8 on 102°LC, early SCAT 1.4 rockers, regroup German lifters, 1.5" Berg heaterbox merged header with a single hi-flow muffler, Bosch 009 with Blue coil, German non-cross drilled welded 78 crankshaft. Static compression ratio was 7.03:1 At Carlsbad Raceway installed in my 1970 bug weighing in at 2040 pounds with driver, a stock ratio gearbox and SR165 radials, it ran consist 14.60's at over 90mph, with a best of 14.62 @ 91.86. Calculated HP considering MPH was 138.6 HP on rotten Kommiefornia pump gas.

It’s a head stud set uses fine thread like race wear from dough Gonzales 140$ head studs cheaper. Than the 400$ raceware on my oval

thats about a 2.4 liter H-4...crazy. I'd be happy with just the 1776cc upgrade, dual weber carbs are nice for raw power, but i don't wanna have to mess around with the linkage, or fuel starving when cornering, cuz I more of a rally guy than a drag strip guy. Still a really nice setup man, would love to have me an oval window, great color too! 👍🏼
@volkstroke3 күн бұрын
The linkage never really needs anything other than the initial set up and the carbs have machined larger float bowls so starving isn’t an issue everything that could be an issue is literally handled before it’s ever installed it’s what we specialize in
@pex_the_unalivedrunk67853 күн бұрын
@volkstroke cool, i'll keep that in mind. i hear a lot of different things from the old VW community, maybe some guys don't do it right. Been wanting to mod my stock '73 for ages and haven't found time to mess with it...have driven that bug from Iowa to Georgia back to Iowa and to Yellowstone all the way to Seattle Washington and back again, those little cars just really want to go places.
@volkstroke3 күн бұрын
@ yeah I have heard it too but I also build dual engines every week and turn out many and always deal with different set ups and I have to say parts matter not because they are more expensive means they are better and or just because they are cheap they aren’t good its literally about what’s better it’s better and if it’s installed properly and with responsibility to the customer and his overall experience. And to be fair some parts need more machining and modifications to make them more reliable and others need nothing it’s up to the amount of work you want to put in
