I have the Astro and the Safari both in cargo van type. I want to build the Astro into a camper conversion so I can take it to the job site and not have to drive back and forth every day. Always love these builds. The transmissions are a little weak though and I don't really recommend them for towing.

Does the bed fold away or become seating?

Nice build, especially for what she had asked for. Just a heads up - The load rating on the roof is surprisingly low, from what I recall. I have a 2022 AWD Sienna and I think the load rating is something like 170 pounds. I was going to use the roof to stand on occasionally, but I haven't been up there after seeing how low the rating was. A roof top tent would probably be a bad idea if you are over 170 lbs.

How can you call such a vehicle a stealth camper when it clearly has a solar panel on the roof?

This is a really practical/efficient build. I like the notion that you built a removable/modular insert that does not require full demo of the interior of the vehicle.

No Dodge Grand Caravan builds yet? I got a 2009 DGC SXT with the stow and go seats and the built in invertor sat nav and outlets.

Very nice, well planned build. I have always like Astro Vans. AWD is a good option. I'd keep an eye out for rear main seal leaks.

Having had several Astros, this is a functional build and someone could definitely do some long term exploring in this van. I gave up on interior sinks but I know a lot of people desire them and that's a cool way he fit it in. Plus the double bed option is a big win that I never did but always thought about. I have a different van now, but those Astro are good rigs if you get them at the right price.

Slick design and execution. I also thought that it was smart to have the option to leave one or both middle seats in. Working on my own build and making it work so one second row seat could be put back in was a driving design requirement. I have a 2014 Odyssey and the big challenge was leveling the floor.
