God I fucking LOVE Kratos's voice in this scene. The whole game, its been gruff, and old, and tired, and (with absolutely no disrespect to Judge) kind've generic "mean old stoic man" voice. Kratos was tired and grieving, and long past a life of yelling his lungs out at those that wronged him. But when he puts the blades on again, and his past comes back to haunt him once more, and as he feels the Greek Fire well up in the blades again after so long, the familiar heat he's long hoped he would never feel again, he's brought right back to his Deicidal Genocide. For just one line, for one brief moment, his visceral anger, his violent wrath, and every single ounce of venom he holds for the gods comes rushing back, and he starts to sound not like Kratos the Stoic, Husband of Laufey, father of Atreus, but Kratos the Ashen, Son of Zeus, Ghost of Sparta. Idk if Judge did that on purpose, but when I heard his voice slightly slip into his old one, I legit almost flew out of my seat. (The line I refer to was "I am your monster no longer," if anyone was confused.

I love when Kratos whispers " i know" like he regrets taking so many lives in the persuit of vengeance. Than you hear the base in his voice when he says " But i am your monster no longer" as he has this presence with him like from another point of view he is the monster. We know him in this game and if you played the previous games he was a man raised to be a soldier, than a god, and finally the legend who destroyed the world but his goals were personal , simple even. Now that he has someone worth saving again he must be the monster people saw him as

"I know. But I am your monster no longer." This is the moment where everything Kratos did came full circle. He accepts his past. He knows he cannot change his past, nor will the gods ever forgive his sins. He left a trail of blood and destruction for the sake of petty revenge and nearly destroyed the world because of it. But he is no longer a pawn of the gods. The blades used to kill his family instead will be used to protect his family. He is a monster, but he is his own monster.

Nobody's commenting on this, but that last line he delivers to Athena, you can hear a bit of the old Kratos in his voice. That's what really makes this scene for me man.

This is for anyone who has ever done stupid (maybe even bad) shit in their lives, and is genuinely trying to do better. You cannot escape your past. You cannot change what you did. The people you hurt, the things you did. But you don’t have to be that person anymore. You can choose to use your past to make a better future. It’s not an easy journey. In fact, it’s fucking hard. And there is no guarantee you’ll succeed. And there will be setbacks (sometimes devastating setbacks). But the journey is worth it. At least, this is what I tell myself every day.

I love the scenes where kratos shows genuine emotion. Gone are the days of a god killing rage monster. He is genuinely afraid of the blades of chaos and what they turned him into previously.

As someone who played the very first God of War the 2005 it's so amazing how much Kratos grown and changed for the better. That whole scene made me emotional. Like acknowledging his mistakes and moving on to not to repeat them.

I really feel like Athena knew what she was doing when she put emphasis on “father”, almost like she knew what was going to set him off.

Important Fact:The actor originally broke in tears as he said I know. Which felt like Kratos was really reflecting on his past more than showed in game.

I think a quote from Kratos in God of War Ragnarok said it the best. "I kill to keep my son safe and to aid my friends. I will not be someone's monster. Never again."

The way he says, "I know" hurts every time.

The expressions, the atmosphere, the pain of it all. Absolutely brilliant.

The way he looks at his arms after touching the blades... so much said with no words.
