SP 2472 locomotive in action in 2002 - Bay Area trips

In December 2002 the Southern Pacific 4-6-2 #2472 ran excursions and charity events in the San Francisco area. Static cab views are followed by on-train and trackside sequences during the San Francisco to Redwood City trip. The 'Silver Solarium' dome observation car is also featured. Night time action concludes the video with a charity fund raising run.

It’s a shame how politics have landlocked the engine now, hopefully we will be able to see her at the speed 73” driving wheels were designed to do. I just miss seeing it period, haven’t seen it alive since its last runs in Niles Canyon, not sure how Iong her inspection will go
