I met Eric after one of the Experience Hendrix shows and told him that some of the notes he played in the outro of this cut are STILL resounding thru the universe.

With its gloomy, mournful face it's easy to incorrectly conclude that the Basset Hound is a bore. While no one can describe the typical Basset Hound temperament as “electric,” they are a rather tolerant and friendly addition to any family.

One of my biggest guitar inspirations, srv really lived and breathed his music, with unbelievable skill! I just wish i was born in a time where i couldve seen him play live. Hes one of those once in a lifetime guitar players that are just so far beyond talented you almost have to see one of his live videos to believe it. Rest easy srv, forever one of the greatest 🤘

Ooh, ooh now baby, tell me how have you been We all have missed you, and the way you grin The day is necessary, every now and then For souls to move on, givin' life back again and again Fly on, fly on, fly on my friend Go on, live again, love again Day after day, night after night Sittin' here, singin' every minute, as the years go passing by, by, by, by Long look in the mirror, we've come face to face Wishing all the love we took for granted, love we have today Life without you, all the love you passed my way The angels have waited for you so long, now they have their way Take your place

This was originally released on Soul to Soul (1985), not In Step (1989). The correct reference above to The Fire Meets the Fury album is taken from the tour of the same name, which included Jeff Beck as the other artist, trading places as the lead act, which was a part of Stevie's full In Step tour. Personally, I love these later versions of this song, when Stevie was clean and sober. Interestingly, he always had a moment in the song where he spoke of loving thy neighbor. But after he sobered up, it was a chance to speak of self-love, or loathing, and the effects of drugs on not being able to love thy neighbor. He was not only an incredible guitar player, singer, song writer. He was a genuinely loving person, and you can hear it.
