solid advise: don't be a software engineer
@user-xn8ks1fq2tАй бұрын
Thanks, great advice! You mentioned to prepare by topic eg data structures, algorithms. On HackerRrank they have an interview preparation kit which is organised around core concepts commonly tested during Interviews rather than topics like data structures, algorithms. Some examples are Arrays, String Manipulation, Stacks and Queues. Would you advise I use this instead?

Hey Chris, Thanks for the insight into your journey. I love seeing people make it on their own. It's a powerful feeling. Would you kindly share your resume template (or possibly any other viable template) in your description? I keep seeing that SWE resume template everywhere and it seems to be super effective but I can't find it for free XD

No, this video is not about how coding systems typically work in the real world. This video is a comedic illustration of a programmer who is stressed about meeting a deadline and ends up writing bad code in order to get it done quickly. In the real world, programmers typically don't work this way. They would typically carefully review and test their code before pushing it to production. Additionally, code reviews are a common practice to ensure that code is well-written, efficient, and meets coding standards.

Chris, can you please provide a template for your 2nd resume (the laytech or laitech one?) (dunno how to spell it)

Just confirmed mine observations. Also want to add - if the code you are producing is having many branches, complicated and messy - you are moving to a wrong direction 99%

I feel like the most important thing you need to learn as a programmer is googling errors. I don't know why but many people don't knkw how to google

Spending hours to debug a problem is a learning process. One will learn how to find the answer and more importantly, it helps to build up the ability to attract the answer from "Arkashic Records" and which eventually evolved as intuition, the ability to attract answers without answers from any physical source such as books, text, and even a human guide. It goes the same as how a senior find an answer where the solution of a problem that the senior is trying solved is not well available yet in the world. When you have successfully solved a bug in hours of time, the answer of how the bug is fixed is just a very tiny portion of what you have gained in the process. You've actually learnt more that just finding an answer, the most valuable asset that you will gain is the intuition of solving problem. Once you have slowly built up your intuition, you will find that the posibilities of ways to solve a problem is infinite... all are so beautiful and amazing... and it's unique in your own way... another expression of this idea is creativity.

I had a intern ask me for help, and expected me to solve and basically do their project for them. Needless to say, I didn't do everything and gave them hints and pointed them in the right direction. They went and got help from another person who basically did it for them. Long story short, they never learned shit and they didn't end up making the team 😂

I think I might have to disagree with some people here. If he was an intern or something. It is really good to ask questions. But if he was a junior. He should be able to do some simple debugging or reading documentations. If possible, only ask if you don't really understand. Or you need an opinion on something.
