I went on a cruise in the 70s as a kid in Europe. There were three classes on this ship. Ppl were divided by prison gates and it was totally normal up to the 1980s to be divided by class, just like in air travel today. Humanity is divided every day by corruption and by Corrupt ppl working in government to destroy what’s good in this world

How ironic that the captain's tub is still filled with water as if it's waiting for him to bathe!

Thats so sad. Some people got to experience hot running water for the first time in their lives only to be thrown into the cold Atlantic sea accompanied by the emotions of great panick, regret, and worry. Is trial and error really worth it for humans to accomplish such feets??

Hindsight is 20/20 … I read so many comments judging the decisions and actions of what happened from two perspectives: hindsight and our own place in history. Californian had prudently stopped for the night. Titanic sailed through: conventional wisdom being they’d be able to see danger before it was too late. When Carpathia rushed to Titanic’s aid, they almost hit bergs themselves and had to slow down. Let’s imagine that Californian had built up a head of steam at the first rocket, brought itself around, navigated at night through an ice field to arrive at the Titanic just after it sank. Very few more lives would have been saved. The rocket firing was definitely from Titanic, but was it a distress signal? Obviously we know it was, but this is hindsight. Aside from waking up the wireless operator to try and contact the ship firing the rockets, Californian did essentially what it could, which isn’t very much. It wouldn’t have reached Titanic in time to save anyone. To us, the notion we’re alone on the sea isn’t something we can comprehend. The notion that the wireless was a toy used by rich people to gossip is something we can’t comprehend. Californian couldn’t have done all that much more. Are they blameless? No more so than any other group of people in this story. When assessing the past, remember that it’s a foreign country: people do things differently there.

The crossing from Southampton to New York back then only lasted for four or five days. That is not too long to go without a bath, especially when one considers that it was the norm amongst most people to have a bath once a week which incidentally I enjoyed as a child back in the fifties and sixties.

3rd class only had two bath TUBS, not two bath ROOMS. There were adequate sinks and toilets for all passengers...just not a common practice to bathe daily (especially amongst lower classes) in 1912.

Fun fact: the very first clip in the video is actually a clip of the Olympic, titanic’s sister ship. Not a whole lot of pictures were taken of titanic. Most pictures of titanic you see on the internet were actually Olympic because they both look almost identical. The reason I knew is because near the bridge the A-deck level isn’t covered from the sides near the bridge.

Apparently 840 passengers died on the Empress compared to 817 on the Titanic and 786 on the Lusitania - both better-known disasters (though the Titanic lost hundreds of crew too)

Not enough bathtubs for many passengers to even take one bath. If it didn't sink and there were longer cruises, they would need to rename the lower classes, stinky class.
