The GS or let´s say the Boxer engine only "drinks" oil, if you overfill the motor with to much oil! If there is to much oil in the engine, it spills it into the rear part of the airbox! And then sucks it into the intake. You have to know that and be aware to do the right oil check. The contoll glas on the teft side to check the oil level may sometime look empty, but then there "could" is still be enough oil inside. There is a special precider to check the oil level!

You’re a natural. I’ve watched far too many motorcycle reviews. This is one of the best. The West Country gave you an advantage but you could have been talking about washing machines and I’d watched to the end. Great work.

@unOrdinaryWorld Dear Sir, I had the pleasure of watching your video, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was beautifully filmed, against a stunning backdrop of Irish coastal scenery. Many thanks for your time and effort in making it. I, too, am seriously considering purchasing a brand new Bonneville T120 Black, and I have a question for you. How do you keep your blacked-out exhaust pipes and engine casing relatively clean? Apart from warm water and a cloth, do you use any special cleaner and / or protectant spray? And secondly, have you had any problems with rust - anywhere - on your lovely machine? Once again, many thanks for your time, and I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon. All the very best from England, Neil :)
@unOrdinaryWorld20 күн бұрын
@@neilyplim Thanks Neil! I don't use any products to keep rust at bay, so there is an occasional clean to be done on the chrome - ACF50 does the job. Overall the chromel is high quality and is resistant to corrosion. Some less quality painted metal parts do need replacing now after 10 years of Irish weather. If you're interested, find the Bonneville review I did with Miles on the FreeMilesMC KZbin channel in which we discuss exactly this, comparing it with his RE Interceptor. So glad you enjoyed the vid! Thanks for your kind words 😌

Great vid, buddy. I'm supriserd you are not using better covers for cylinder heads and rocker cover riding on this rocky road. I also had 1150 for more than 3 years now, on odometer right now over 170 000km and runs like a dream. Love confidency that bike gives me that it will bring me home back. Love how this bike can carry additional weight, this strange suspension setup doing great job like full luggage and 2 person and still can making fun on twisty mountain roads grinding footpegs, also big low end torque makes this extra weight dissapear. Also supprised you are talking about poor gas mileage, i have had like 4.8-6l per 100km from over 30 000km i make on my GS, for me this is great for such heavy bike, also this how much extra weight you put on bike that not effect much on gas mileage😅. Oil consumption can be from old valve seals, and try to change oil, when i changed oil to one that is specificly for old air cooled motorbikes like H-D (20w50) consumption drops from 300-350ml per 1000km to like 150ml per 1000km. This is great bike overall, not the best one on everything, but at least good on every aspect of riding, thats make this model so unique.

The policeman probably has a quota of citations to issue each month and loves to prey on foreign bikers to help meet that goal. Of course, you're absolutely right about what he SHOULD have done and how much more likely a warning would be to help keep the roads safe. Bikers having a slower limit than cars is truly strange.. Being from the land of police shooting black people and beating student protesters I tend to be a bit cynical. 🤨

Thank you for taking us along for the ride, Ferdia! It's been a fantastic journey. There were times when I wished that I could have been there riding along with you. I'm suspecting that the problem that you had with your fuel pump was due to a gunked up or plugged fuel filter. The ethanol in E10 fuel will dissolve residue in your tank and fuel lines that's been left behind by standard gas (petrol). Your engine will burn a bit of it but what doesn't make it into the cylinders gets caught in the filter. That's why it's there after all. Some fuel still gets through but, your fuel pump has to work harder to provide what your engine is calling for as it's running. That's why your fuel pump was making that high pitched whining or whistling sound. That's just my guess. I could be completely off the mark with this guess. The good part is that after a tank of E10 the inside of your tank and your fuel lines should be nice and clean. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next on this channel.

What chance that you could interview Peter Murtagh for the channel? I'm going to get the book, thanks for alerting me to it. You are spot on about biking in Ireland. Aside from the weather and indifference to bikers from many motorists, there is the scourge or 'surface dressing', where local councils spread gravel on newly repaired road. Dangerous and should be illegal!
