In snowboarding you never call last run. Calling last wave sounds the same!

That long 12-14ft.gun saved his super late take off. But very great ride and surf experience. Anybody else, very little chance.

Lived in that area for years, the waves are literally like giant buildings moving through the ocean. Really scary, but used to watch Jeff Clark paddle out, sometimes solo and paddle into that wave. Bought a few boards from him to surf the small stuff. Any of those people that surf this wave are just incredible athletes with nerves of steel!

I've surfed some 20 + at Tourmaline in Pacific Beach...which was an ankle knocker compared to this Maverick giant.

I was surfing back in the late 70's and early 80's and without one of those floater suits they wear now. The one that has a rip cord and blows up your suit and brings you to the surface. That's what saved this guy because without it, he surely would have been a goner. I rode and crashed on a ten footer and I almost drowned it pounded me so hard and kept me to the bottom and I couldn't surface. After that I gave up surfing on anything of that size. Seeing these waves on video do not do them justice and seeing a body of water this size is terrifying. However, the thrill of riding it out for so long is one of the greatest feeling you can ever have. I thinks it's like sky diving and floating thru the air for seconds is like riding that big wave for seconds but feels like the longest time ever.

Sometimes you gotta take off straight and stand on back vs taking off at an angle if it’s gonna be an air drop. Haha look at me commenting and I don’t even know how to surf.

Got smacked down at surf city nc last week. Wave was like 5 foot. I got too nose heavy when I stood up and the nose caught. I flipped forward right as the wall came down on me. I got bent like a pretzel. My neck and back popped in every vertebrae. I cannot imagine that size of a wave pounding you.

Maverick’s, is definitely one of a handful of world’s WORST big wave wipeout experiences you can have. THE place that terrifies me the most from observation, (never surfed it) is “SHIPSTERN BLUFF”……YIKES!!

We used to go way out there at Stinson Beach; a cold, violent place. In 2010 I got so beat up by a wave, like a metal bat hitting my back, that I got out and have never gone back in to this day.

Most non surfers have no idea how tough surfers are. Most people think that UFC fighters, gang bangers, Bikers, etc are tough. But most of them would never survive a beat down from a solid 5-6 ft wave. I don't think any non surfer would've survived this beast.

most people have no clue just how powerful waves can be - I have been hit by a 2m VERTICAL WALL of water that blotted out sun and sky - I had never before seen water literally standing VERTICALLY upright rushing straight for you - it was a freak wave - when it hits - it feels like you are getting hit by a truck - you have no power against it - tossed around like a rag doll - these waves here are FAR higher than that so just multiply that experience by 1000 -
