I honestly hate how underwhelming the Greendog destruction was, seeing how James and others hyped it up in the Cinemassacre Podcast episode prior to this. Using the game's chill music doesn't help either, it just makes it more lame lol. Also, it's really funny how AVGN goes "those thiefs" to a Greendog track sounding similar to Hot Chelle Rae's Tonight Tonight even though Greendog released WAY before the song in 1992 while the song dropped in goddamn 2011

I never even knew "We got this by the ass!" as a quote from something, but I think your point about James referencing movies and what works and what doesn't work still holds up. When James says "we got this by the ass!" it's in an episode where he's struggling for most of it dealing with the Power Glove's shitty reliability, but he says that in a singular moment where the Power Glove actually works well. You don't have to know the quote, it makes sense in context, and it's just a short, single sentence. Whereas James making a reference to that Vampire's Kiss movie feels really forced; it isn't just a single sentence, it's like an entire bit. It also doesn't really make sense as a bit, too, it's like bad observational comedy. Whoa, there are letters on powerups in games! Okay who cares. I think the real point is that the former is just a fun little line of dialogue that doesn't get in the way of the pacing of the video, whereas the latter just feels like James was (once again) out of ideas and just trying to shove another movie reference in even if it made no sense.

When i watched this for the first time i like it except for the hell kitchen part, but yeah, maybe is an amalgamation of many ideas that should not be toguether, like in past episodes there was the idea of making a movie about jekill and hyde the videogame, but the parody wasnt in the episode, it was in another video, so maybe this video should be like 3 diferent videos(? Like one for the avgn character going through the game, another more for history lessons and the last one to parody the logic inside the game itself, like, yeah, this are good ideas but toguether dont make so much sense

With the way he inserted an outdated meme reference like Hell's Kitchen, I'm always reminded of that character Jim Belushi plays from 30 Rock dressed up like a high schooler and going, "How do you do, fellow kids?" That's that Hell's Kitchen skit in a nutshell.

I'm inclined to believe people's theories that they filmed a section for what was supposed to be an episode about a Hell's Kitchen video game, scrapped it but still decided to try to jam it into this episode instead.

Yeah I skipped the Sim city episode. Not a fan of those kind of games at all, and I knew there wouldn't be any nerd ranting seeing how the game is rated highly. Really wish he would stop doing so many " good game episodes" Same with the Castlevania one. I watched him review castlevania games back in the day, feel like it has overstayed its welcome, and he's just scraping the bottom of the barrel for content at that point.

It's gonna be a video where he's gonna try tie it altogether and if this is anything to go on it's gonna be messy . I’ve grown up watching AVGN and my feelings have mirrored his, but as he has aged and it’s gone from a passion project to a staple for his family the quality has dropped significantly and as a family man I can understand the procession I just wish he could realise the reason he has a following is because of the raw frustration he had with simple video games was the reason why he had such a great following

What I think is the worst is that these aren't even bad videos he makes now. In comparison to the things I come across on youtube, I far prefer a mid modern AVGN episode. It's just that classic AVGN was so unique and fun that it's sad that the same man lost the magic to create it. I imagine it's due to youtube guidelines, but I doubt it, as I doubt it's their only revenue.

6:40, honestly I’d rather take a Shit Pickle cameo at this point over an old man version of Luke Skywalker. Mark Hamill has gone off the deep end in recent times because of his incessant obsession with politics, and Disney Star Wars totally nuked Luke Skywalker’s character.

7:48 I saw another channel point that out, but yes, the nerd's hypocrisy of leaving in an "intake of an outtake," the very same thing he complained about in "Plum bers Don't Wear Ties." James Rolfe doesn't try to hide the fact that it's an outtake. I bet that "happy birthday" bit was unscripted and James Rolfe came up with it right on the spot, causing him and anyone else in the room to start laughing. Honestly, that outtake could have been such an easy fix. Right as the nerd finishes saying "you" and just as the laughter is about to be heard, just remove the rest of that part. At least make it seam like nothing went wrong or silly. But no, the finished episode has that outtake part, even though it would have been such an easy thing to disguise by removing the laughter part.
