I tried this and not one wasp. I'm so shocked I thought for sure it would of worked. I did the water and jam and apple juice and jam and not one customer. .....??

I'm sorry to hear this. Maybe try putting it in a different location? You could also try putting a small smear of jam on the opening of the trap to lure them in.

I would try without the soap, they likely wont get out anyway. And if they survive longer, another wasp may try to help out

I've used similar traps in the past, and got best results with boring orange juice. The soap doesn't deter them?

Hey Tony, The soap seems to work ok. You only need the tiniest drop. I should try the orange juice to see how it works Take Care :)

Please let us know how this product has held up? (It doesn't seem to be galvanized from online info, just powder painted) My area is very damp, so I'm trying to find a galvanized type, no luck so far. Also, the MFR site Pylex, has an installation video now. Thanks

Hey John, It's held up pretty well. There is definitely some rust happening on the screws and a few other spots but I think it's easy enough to paint. My main concern is the wheels. We get quite a bit of snow here so they are wet a lot of the time. They squeek and there's rust around the bearings. My main worry is where the heck am I going to find replacements when these give out...? Otherwise the family love the gate. It easy for the kids to open, keeps the dog at bay and is nice and wide. Take Care :)

OK just so you know , all adult wasps you see in spring are not carnivorous they can only drink sugar nectar etc.. There young in the nest later in the year eat meat and produce a liquid the adults feed on.. When a wasp changes from a grub into an adult wasp/hornet it's waste shrinks that's why adult wasps / hornets can no longer digest meat.. Trap the Queens in spring using apple juice syrup etc that will cut down the nests..

You can add a little baker's yeast to make the juices ferment and smell even more. That's what all these insects love, the smell of rotting fruit to know that it's ripe, sweet and juicy.

I don’t know if the newer Mella’s have been updated, but we just purchased one and the clock has 3 brightness levels for the nightlight, and the “yellow” light (referred to in the instructions as “play mode”) can be adjusted (from 30 minutes up to 3 hours) or disabled.

I noticed you switched sides of the slide. Is that why you had to redo the slide frame because you put it on backwards? I guess the slide only goes on one side. I’m in the middle of doing a swing set and I have mine set up like you did in the beginning. I reckon I’m going to have to switch sides 😅

Most of the issues described have always had a solution. I bought mine 4 years ago for my baby girl and it always had 3 brightness levels and the ability to remove the yellow light 30 mins before the wake up time. For the battery issue, I replaced the battery with a rechargeable one and it seems to be keeping the charge forever now. I think it's a genuine design flaw where the battery is indeed inline with the power instead of a backup, so the battery gets discharged fast. However, that flaw is actually a good charging mechanism for my rechargeable battery.

What time of year did you set out your traps? Here in TN, red paper wasps bombard my shed and porch in the spring but even more so in October. I've been stung and my dog was stung all in the last week! I have a garden so don't want to risk hurting any pollinators but these red paper wasps have got to go. I think they have nested inside my shed roof under the new tin and old roof.

Thankyou. I will try this NOW! I have several black wasps flying around my patio and I’m afraid to go out there to turn the water on to water my citrus trees. There are so many flying around. Thank you for testing the different solutions. Hope I don’t get stung putting up the trap ha ha. 😳

These look great. I got the lumber for this project, except, my daughter wants 'cubby's'. A standard cubby is 12", with cubby bins/baskets measuring 11". I have to adjust heights of steps to allow them to fit and, of course, add 1 X 12's to divide up individual cubby boxs. Still using your pattern, though. Thx

I made a discovery to kill yellow jackets crawling through openings near your home/shed etc! Place glue traps near the hole! Where they land etc! I killed over 30-40 in a days time that way! Diminish the colony… then you can attack without so many swarming or harming ya! I was able to open my storage unit find the nest/hive & kill the rest! (None were flying around when I was finally able to go in unit safely)! Best eradication I’ve experienced besides wasp spray foam into a ground nest! Many methods thank goodness! Jus try not to get stung! 😮😅😂 ikr!👌💪👋🏻✌️

I had some commercial traps that were similar but used two side openings. I had some hornets with a nest near my back porch and they got defensive especially at night when I'd go out on it. I tried a suggestion of orange juice (no soap) which didn't have much results at first. Then once the orange juice started fermenting, they were on those traps like a starving dog to a steak. The traps filled so fast I had to empty them repeatedly just so more could fit in them. I imagine it would work the same for yellow jackets and other types of wasps.

I just tried the one with jam, water and dish soap and didn't get hardly anything! I even cut some slits in funnel to get the aroma of the jelly for them to come. They're going in but not getting caught and just flying out. Does it matter where I hang it? Right now it's just a few feet from the feeder. Should it be a little further away?
