I just had a call from a Medtronic person asking about my supplies situation. Apparently they are having problems getting things made and shipped out to everyone in time. It's interesting how I never see TV ads from them. Dexcom is advertising and the Freestyle Libre ran many ads for a while too. I think many people have left Medtronic for the Omnipod and Dexcom arrangement.

I sure hope newly diagnosed diabetics get better survival training then I did when I was diagnosed in 1998. I'll never forget getting diet advice from an obese nurse. Screw all the political correctness crap. I wouldn't take financial advice from someone who is broke so y would I take diet advice from an obese nurse? Fortunately I was inclined to go to the library and start reading books about diabetes. Many people now get their information mostly from social media and r not very well-informed as a result as u would expect. It's a sad state of affairs indeed. Anyone who is diagnosed type 2 who is overweight should immediately get a referral to a psychologist. If u can almost get rid of the lousy disease with diet and weight loss and u don't do it u meed to have your head examined. Diabetes sucks so bad y would anyone accept dealing with it for the rest if their life if they might b able to walk away from it? My psychiatrist went to Harvard and he's obese! No wonder y so many people just say it's genetic and never really become determined to change. 26 years since my diagnosis and I haven't spent a night in the hospital yet. But I accepted responsibility and educated myself but most seem incapable of doing it sadly.

This is a great question and I'm really not sure. In the USA the G7 is sold as a prescription only. You could contact your own doctor or Dexcom specifically from their website. They also have one called the Stelo that is a little different but you don't need a prescription for it. Best of luck.

@drhannahhamlin With Medtronic? I've been on it close to 5 years. My endocrinologist connected me with them. The rep was already in the building when I told him I was interested in pursuing a pump which he had mentioned previously. My situation is different than most people on the pumps though. My diagnosis was type 2 at 33. My current endocrinologist changed my diagnosis to type 1 about 6 years ago. I don't think I really am a textbook type 1 though because my c-peptide showed I was still making insulin. Also I was normal and negative for GAD65 and antibodies. I'm probably really a type 2 with reduced ability to make insulin because of beta cell burnout versus losing insulin making ability entirely because of the autoimmune malfunction. Anyway I wasn't even aware initially about all the different devices now competing. I just saw several people who said that they r glad they left Medtronic and feel life is better with the Omnipod/Dexcom arrangement.

I found when doing exercise is to suspend it for a little time then let it kick back in as normal this timing is also important to not getting a spike but as for changing the basals I found not as good, sometimes it can be other times not. so maybe try playing between the both. Will also depend on what type of exercise too.

Hello. Love your videos and thanks for sharing your knowledge. Just curious if you have ever come across any type 1 diabetics who have seen an increase in their C-Peptide? I’ve had type 1 diabetes for 27 years and have recently increased my C-Peptide to 0.60 ng/mL. I strongly believe I can heal and it’s a long story, but I have posted some videos showing my progress and reasoning in case you’re interested. But just curious if you have ever come across anyone with T1D that has shown a significant increase in C-Peptide before?

In people who have a positive c-peptide and have had T1D for many years, I think about Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults. It is common to have a positive c-peptide that changes with this. This would be a great video topic. I'll add it to my list. I will check out your videos. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Hannah. Really good advice. I was diagnosed at 23 with what they thought at the time was type 2 but then I eventually diagnosed as type 1 last year at 36 and started on the insulin pens. I have had such an up and down first year. Some weeks I'm 90+% in range, other's I'm 5% and everywhere in between. Next year I hope to adopt a more consistent strategy like yours and just stick to it. I had a few scary lows which I think has made me subconsciously run higher than I should. How do you recover mentally from a low so that it doesn't have that effect?

Folks, take a good look at how beautiful this lady is. She's a Good 8-9! Gorgeous and such an attractive lady. The only problem this illness has is the cost to maintain your health and in acquiring the medication and toys that help you function more efficiently. I'll tell you a very sad story in a real life situation how this illness has changed over time. 34 years ago, when I was 22 years old, I met a beautiful girl a couple years younger than me. Back then diabetes was considered a debilitating and life shortening illness. People feared it, and doctors didn't understand it really. Medication quality and variations changed every 6 months. I became insulin dependent when I was 22. I was extremely fit! 3-5% body fat until I was 30. I lifted and ran like my life depended on it. I kept my condition to myself. People looked way down on it like you were a walking death sentence. Almost every hypoglycemic reaction I ever had, had been at night when I was sleeping. I kept my medication/syringe in my pocket out of sight. When women saw me, they loved me. I was a muscular Tom Cruise. If I kept my illness to myself my phone never stopped ringing and the ladies never stopped giving me their attention. I had a good job and good health care. I had access to what you needed as a diabetic and I never feared needles making testing and taking very simplistic for me. Back to my story about my 20-year-old Princess. To this day, I have never seen or dated a girl that was as beautiful as she was. I wanted so bad to tell her about my condition to see if she would still stay with me. She was perfection in every way. Her smile, her long blond hair, her hands and toes still take my breathe away today. We never broke up as a couple. It was just easier to not tell her, than give her the reason to leave. So we just kind of stopped dating. We would later bump into each other before I moved, and our eyes would meet. "I closed my eyes for an instant, when they opened you were there, for just a moment in my life all my eyes could do was stare." We never shared our fears with each other. She passed away about 14 years later due to complications of juvenile diabetes. She didn't have the needed access to medications and toys I did. If there is a God, he is very cruel. I can still see her perfect toes as I remember them pictured in my hands. Toward the end of her life numerous had to be cut off trying to survive.

@drhannahhamlin
@drhannahhamlin 2 ай бұрын
Hey, this is a great question. There are a lot of factors that go into the answer. One big one is how the settings for insulin action time are set up on your pump. This is how the pod calculates how much correction to give you if you still have insulin on board from a meal. Another is your sensitivity factor, if it's not set right for you it can calculate too much correction. I recommend talking to your local doc about making sure these settings are right for you.

@drhannahhamlin 4 ай бұрын
@@EpicMom2117 Amazing! I will add these to my topics list. C-peptide does usually lower over time, meaning we are making less and less insulin until none. This is typical in type 1 diabetes only, we don't see this in all people with other types of diabetes (LADA, MODY, Type 2, gestational, etc). As for a cure, medicine is amazing. There is so much we don't know. I believe in a cure or in strategies for prevention so humans stop getting diagnosed with it. I have no idea how or when - just belief in medicine and the world.

How does pre-bolus'ing work when you're out to dinner and you don't know when your meal is coming? If your glucose level is 80 and trending lower, how does arresting the basal rate prevent the dangerous low if you already have insulin onboard from the previous micro bolus (basal rate)? How do you go to the beach in 85-90 degree weather with 200 units of insulin strapped to your body? Seems like that insulin will go bad pretty fast. At my current basal rate, I'd be changing this thing every other day; that's ridiculous. I'm lost how anyone thinks this is all a great idea. How about stem cell therapy to regenerate working eyelet cells in the pancreas? Sorry, now I'm sounding crazy.
@drhannahhamlin
@drhannahhamlin 3 ай бұрын
Hello, I have tips for who I pre-bolus at restaurants coming out in a new video this fall. It does make it more challenging but I eat out and make it work often. Arresting basal before a low doesn't always prevent it if there is insulin on board from a previous bolus/basal still in action. It does help prevent the severity of it and can prevent lows all together in some cases. We are starting to learn that insulin doesn't denature in heat as much as we thought it would. I walk my dog at lunch in 100+ degree weather (summers in Austin) and with the omnipod I've never had a problem with insulin denaturing. Stem cell therapy is amazing and we are learning more about using it as a tool. The science isn't there yet but I have hope.

However, it has become clear that a substantial proportion of patients either with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes have renal function loss without proteinuria, known as nonproteinuric diabetic kidney disease. 🤔🤔 Is it possible if yes then how to diagnose CKD, Urine Routine and KFT blood test would be normal 🤔🤔🙂🙂.
