I will definitely be hitting this... I was once taught something similar when you're playing closed guard or half guard, where it allows you to pin his posture down and expose his back. I was taught to use the opposite hand to break the grip, but the same side hand creates more gaps and openings, so this makes even more sense to me.
@DirtballBJJ
@DirtballBJJ Ай бұрын
I think it is fundamentally the same idea. The more I study and play with this stuff the more similar it all becomes!! Good luck!!

Yeah! I do this as well! Old Greco wrestler here, with short arms and an increasing gut, the hammerlock is much more comfortable a grip than the figure-4 or DWL. Once I just stopped worrying and learned to love the hammerlock grip, it's been much happier days (for me). As a bonus, one day I'm going to get it on a cop in a no-gi competition, and that should be worth extra points.
@DirtballBJJ
@DirtballBJJ Ай бұрын
That's awesome!! I really like this grip and have been using it a ton lately. If you get it on a cop make a sure to tell them to stop resisting. My cop buddies love it when I do that, haha.

That’s nice. I knew what you were about to do before you did it-it makes sense…but a year ago it would’ve been a huge revelation. And even now, I never thought of it until I was thinking through as you were setting it up. I’m just getting to the point where some-by far not all-of the dots are starting to connect. I really love your simple way of showing things that work. Thanks.

What if he follows us and get some kind of mount???
@DirtballBJJ
@DirtballBJJ 2 ай бұрын
Yes. He can also try to take your back. You need to be quick on your transition. For me, I would rather counter attack to prevent the arm triangle (and maybe get a submission) and end up with my back taken, than be subbed by the arm triangle.

The strength and effectiveness of these techniques can't be overstated, but the poetic delivery can't be ignored either. "If you can't finish the Kimura, just pull his head off with your knees." Where has this been my whole life?

What do you recommend for Gi grip strength?
@DirtballBJJ
@DirtballBJJ 2 ай бұрын
The classic exercise for gi grip strength is doing pull ups using gi lapels as your gripping point. Throw an old gi over a pull-up bar and grab the lapels then either hang or rep out some pull-ups. I also use the sleeve that I cut off an old gi. I connect it to some exercise bands and do static and dynamic pulls. I'll put up a video of that one. Thanks!
