2 was on PC I think and 4 was on the SNES. The Valis games have many versions of their games, take Valis 1, you have the Gyo 1986 version, the Sega Version, the later PC version and a other PC version without the cutscenes.

fuck golden sun and camelot. Our community is pure bullshit. I am a Spanish guy and I want to do a romhack of golden sun based of the story of Hans after the events of Venus lighthouse and another ideas. If we created it together we will have amazings games like the hackrom community of pokemon hacks.. Yes I know we are few compared to pokemon but fuck off there are a lot of KZbinrs who love golden sun also. MAN I am so angry. Honestly I pay for help it is necessary. I FUCKING LOVE GOLDEN AND I WANT A STORY WITH MORE DETAILS ABOUT ALEX AND THE OTHERS

Jack is such a badass, the dlc took me hours to get through but with a proper build or extra mode I can see it lasting almost nothing And I was kinda hoping for one final credits roll at the end with "my way" playing after defeating Garland

Yeah, I did go back recently and play some more to try and get a feel for builds now that I have everything available. It wasn’t bad, but still not my full cup of tea :) And I would have LOVED another version of My Way at the end!

@chocobose yeah it didn't feel like the final ending (after 3 or so endings already) without the credits one last time I'm thinking about going all the way to the last floor of the labyrinth but it is too time consuming, I never got to the end of Nioh's abyss or Nioh 2's depths either

A 2D-HD remaster (like the Dragon Quest III remaster for Switch) would be absolutely incredible. Keep the pixel art for flavor, but enhance the environment and world visuals and give us a prequel series that leads into the events of Golden Sun I and II.

Im sceptical about remakes but i mean star ocean first departure was a fantastic remake so its possible it could be better. Id like camelot to make a new jrpg tho, golden sun story is tapped out in my opinion.

@@chocobose the original first 2 GS games were so unique, I'm really happy I got to play them back then on the original hardware. Still my favorite JRPG ever and it's not even close. If Camelot was behind the remake I'm positive it would be amazing. Sadly since GS ip is owned by Nintendo, it's unlikely we'll see anything under that name for a long time especially since Dark Dawn had a mixed rating at best. And jrpgs are all following the action battle system we'll most likely lose all the things that made the games so unique and beautiful. I'm a believer tho so only time will tell!

I'd love to see remakes of all 3 games. But mostly because I think the Golden Sun experience just isn't the same without the savefile import. I'd love to see that feature appear in a Dark Dawn remake and an eventual 4th game. That said, let's face it. Golden Sun is most likely dead and buried unfortunately :(

Leave GS and lost age as it is, but redo dark dawn on switch. Feels like they were way too focused on utilizing new features on 3ds that they wasted their time reamping everything and spending no time developing the story. A tragedy... ☠️🥀

Apparently the "tinny" Voices were an intentional thing. It was supposed to give the world a more otherworldly feel, since you are the Spirit, rather than the characters.

A funny thing about “learning the Magnus system”: if you actually can wrap your head around it, the game isn’t really equipped to handle it until the final boss. Every combo becomes a kill combo if you know what you’re doing.

Makes a lot of sense to me! The precision at which combos have to be performed feels deadly even at low levels.

The way I’d personally describe it is a bit long winded but goes like this: most turn based RPGs test active and smart use of your options, while Final Fantasy XIII tests how well you prepared before a fight alongside your reaction times for judging a situation on the fly…and then managing card combos in Baten Kaitos is both skill sets at once. Though your “deadly even at low levels” point is also accurate. Sure, you can try to go for high damaging straights if you’re lucky, but that’s unnecessary when playing combos of the same card number and a lot of an enemy’s weakness element is easier and very often more than enough to kill in one go. Oh, and everything but the final boss usually only take five of these combos, which, if you do the math, means they only ever get one or two turns in. Even the fight immediately before True Malpercio is like this.

I’ve been meaning to pick up the remasters for a while now, shame they just cut the dub instead of trying to fix or re-record it. I would probably play the Japanese version anyway, but cutting the option out is always unfortunate.

Spoiler: Something interesting that you did not mention (and we never see that in other jrpg) It's that Kalas (the protagonist) betrayed us since the beginning with Melodia (same story writer from Chrono Cross "Masato Kato") lol. Also the plot twist about the real identity of Malpercio in Baten Kaitos Origins (the prequel) is quite wild lol. Also yeah it's easily best soundtrack from Sakuraba, I miss his more older music style like that.

True, I did ignore that plot point. I still haven't quite figured out right balance of "talk about the entire plot" vs "talk not enough about the plot" lol. I really do miss the older RPG music/Sakuraba scores too. The man is a legend!!

This game was so formative for me. You're definitely right about the card system being insanely complex. As a huge fan and competitive player of games like Yugioh, MTG, and hearthstone, the Magnus system is waaaaay too convoluted. Despite all that, I still love the janky charm of it. Well done on this retrospective!

Personal recommendation would be the 5X Pro just because it has the ability to save profiles and has sooooo many more settings to adjust thing to precise points. The 2X pro is less settings but more essentially plug and play.

I’m curious if, when using S video, does the top 1/4th of your tv screen seem a bit fuzzy? Regardless of console or s video cable, the top part of my tv seems to have almost static. It’s only noticeable from a side angle, and barely noticeable when sitting directly in front of the tv, but still a bit bothersome. I’m wondering if there is a pin problem in my unit

I rather have a retcon of dark dawn. Eliminate that entire story. Put us back in the shoes of Felix/Isaac in stopping Alex’s machinations. They can incorporate some of the story elements of Dark Dawn, but I don’t really care to play as the kids of the original protagonist.

I think the story of the kids would have been a lot better if it weren't just a retread of the original 2 games. - pink and blue protagonists - fusion final boss - Alex again - Tret and Laurel If it were their kids but a totally unique story, like having to pick up the pieces of their parents who, maybe, disappeared one day or something? That would be so much more interesting.

The fact that we have no resolution to this in a decade is really disappointing. Dark Dawn wasn't as good as the first two GS games, but still want a new game to give us a resolution.

Exactly! I know they wanted to do more after this, but as I've gotten older it reflects my feelings when tv series do the same thing; they act like a sequel/season 2 is a given and just leave on a major "The End...?"

Golden Sun should be a Remaster thing like FFVI Remake and Rebirth - Open World - Action Combat or Round based idc - Remastered OST - 2 Parts The third one is actually not canon and was just fan service , so ditch it or rather turn that into a big DLC but not on its own Golden Sun should’ve ended with Part 2

Because that's their base class. Base class barely reaches lv 20. You should be done with the 1st half of the game soon and that's when they get their next class which is much stronger.

So I did have one from when it was first released, but my cat knocked something onto it recently so I just bought another. I COULD just have gone with an emulation console, but I have always had a bad taste in my mouth about those clone consoles.
