When I was a kid, I could fish and have an entire stretch of river to myself; sadly that is not the case anymore. However I feel like going late October is a bit better, its colder and kids are back in school. But, if your wanting more seclusion, you will have to fish during the catch and release season, which runs in November through February I believe.

I love that river, I was trying to figure out why you guys were making it hard on yourselves and paddling upstream for quite a while. I’ve always put in a Cane Bluff and taken out down at Greer Springs and it’s a great 9 mile float for smallmouth without having to paddle against the current. Good video and looked like you guys had fun! 😉

You fly fish at Montauk, I need insight on a fly fishing fly, I do fine with a spinning rod and reel but get skunked up in the fly fishing zone. Enjoyed your Bennett Spring Video.

I appreciate the comment. I relayed your questions to our designated Fly Fishermen, Skye, he is the one who fishes at Bennett. Skye indicated that he uses a Mop Fly. If your not familiar, they are literally a peice of mop head tied to a little jig. Skue ties his own now, but you can purchase them, the colors he tends to use are a off white or cream color. All the fish he lands in the Bennett Spring videos he is using that Mop Fly. He also used a weighted indicator that the Mop Fly drifts under. Skye said getting the depth right is very important, so if you not landing fish you may need to adjust you depth between the jig and the indicator. Also, when tying on your leader, you should choose a green monofilament vs a clear one and he uses 3 lbs test. If the Mop Fly isn't working for him, Skye also uses white mini jigs, and Salmon Egg Glo Balls. It should also be noted, he uses these methods during the Fall Winter months as the fish are more aggressive than they are in the summer.

Well, my buddy Skye in that video prefers Bennett and I prefer Montauk. I don't think either is "Better." I think you will find more enjoyment at one place over another based on your fishing style and preferences. But low-key, Montauk is definitely better.

This one kinda depends on how big of a group your planning to feed and how big your appetites are. We also filet our fish. The 8 filets made with 4 fish, with sides should feed two or three people, depending on how hungry you all are.

This is a matter of knowing where they are likely to have stocked the fish overnight and getting up early, to claim a spot where you believe the fish have pooled up. You get those patterns down, you can limit out most mornings in about 7 casts.

How many inches are worth keeping for eating?
@barnhilloutdoors9517
@barnhilloutdoors9517 8 ай бұрын
The way I personally determine if a fish is a keeper is by the thickness. When I grab a fish, I hook my thumb around its dorsal fin and my other fingers I wrap around its belly. With a good grip, if my thumb is not able to touch my middle finger, I know that fish will provide a nice meaty filet. Now that you brought it up, I may actually explain that process, in a future video.

Nice buck for sure - congrats! You said neck shot, but looks like a shoulder hit? Also, at one point you said “ I don’t know how lethal a neck shot is “ then why would you take one?
@barnhilloutdoors9517
@barnhilloutdoors9517 11 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. As far as the neck shot comment, what your seeing is our collective Barnhill men tendency to self doubt every shot we take. If you haved watch any of our archery hunts, you will notice we question our shots. It's an odd quirk we need to over come for sure, as we are always careful and trying to make quick lethal shots. As you saw, the Buck was hit well and died very quickly. My brother only took the shot, when he believed he had a good shot to take. But he's just like the rest of us Barnhill's, after he pulled the trigger, he started questioning things in his own mind.
