Hi Brian, Great video! This might be a difficult question but how would you say the mizen 102 on the 01 differ from the core burrs in the EG1?

How easy do you think it would be to use this brewer to do a Japanese iced coffee. It would be quicker than the cold brew function and can be brewed for single serve as well.

Over the years had many Altieri, Janson, Mikava, Savage, Ninety Plus, Abu coffees which are 90+ scored and they are different animal at least to say. Some of them are pricey but some of them have decent price versus what you get. Atm have Savage Elipse and Enigma which are 94 score and Janson 91 score, can't wait to try them these days. Cheers!

It's hard to describe the taste / experience which they're doing a good job of doing. You probably have never tried a good light roast high quality Ethiopian or gesha coffee. They talk about cost at the end, I think Brian is pretty down to earth.

@@BensCoffeeRants I’m coming from a buy whole bean at my local grocer coffee experience where I brew with a French press. My favorite has been Mexican coffee. I grind it at home. It just seems absurd that these types of coffees cost so much. Is there really that much of a difference? Like I said, most people can’t afford stuff like this. I guess I’m just uneducated.

@@JwaukechonIMO there is absolutely diminishing returns and not to mention these coffees may not be everyone’s taste preference. I would say a 90* point coffee will taste better than an 85 but not at 10x the cost.

We don't get much Panama coffee out here in Indonesia, although we do get some. Common Grounds in Jakarta had an Elida estate gesha in November 2023 and I think it might be the best coffee that I have tasted. It was superb, I remember a really clear earl grey tea note. So jelly that you guys have that right now. Thanks for the great content as always Brian!

I’d love to know more about how it was roasted. Like, how many sample roasts did they do before finding the profile for the larger batch? I roast at home with a Kaffelogic Nano 7, and would typically hit such a coffee with a lot of heat early, and then transition to a smooth, slow finish - kind of like searing a steak and then gently heating it through. Did they also use a high charge temperature and slower development, or do they have a different approach to an intense, high elevation, washed coffee? Thanks!

I bought the Ode Gen 1 back in December 2020 and have purchased the Mazzer 64 and then the 64 SSP MP from Fellow. I too enjoyed some of the cups with the SSP MP because the acidity and vibrancy were so high, but it was difficult to use and I did sometimes experience muddled and harsh cups. What I wanted was clarity and vibrancy. But a little over a month ago, I went back to the original Ode Gen 1 burrs before the V 1.1 burrs to try them out after using the SSP MP burrs for a while and I am really surprised by how much clarity and definition they offer. Now, I do brew with a Kalita 155 and I use a large dose of 24g with a 1:16.6 ratio and grind between 3.1 to 4.1. I usually use 3.2 on my Ode Gen 1 burrs with my brewing setup/recipe. This recipe works well if you are looking for a lot of clarity and definition. I don't get any harshness or bitter cups anymore. I hope some people go back to their Gen 1 burrs and try this recipe out. To help entice you, the cups aren't just clear and delicate, they also have plenty of sweetness. Also, I regularly use Tim Wendelboe, Heart, Swerl, Sey, and Passenger coffees.

Interesting idea. I’m 34 and find I am less “excited” by bold upfront flavors. Instead I am much more interested in more refined nuanced flavor profiles. While some of that may be due to physical palate changes, I think it’s probably more related to social factors.

Dude i totally relate. I bought the MP’s back when they were hot and fellow started putting them in the Ode gen 1. I literally could never get solid cups and i couldn’t understand what the hype is until I’d get 1/10 delicious cups lol I just blamed my lack of ability on the shitty coffee. Then I acquired more grinders and had my big realization that the MP’s weren’t for me. (zp6 and ode gen 2 burrs are current daily drivers) I brewed a cup of of MP’s for this stream and it was the same god damn experience I always had. I will say the acidity on the MP’s is great, but god damn that back half of the flavor lol
