Ingut buggies get so hot, there's why no air brakes on them, none in the world can withstand such merciless heat. No surprise why pheumatic valves, houses can't survive there. There was PPE gear: wool jacket and pants protecting from radiating heat. My hard hat was a little deformed and wool jacket had a few rusty spots when uncoupling those buggies.

Its a damn shame that none of these pieces of history were saved. I'm sure sites like Marquette, MI would have gladly erected one of these to compliment the loader system on display now. I landed here just due to a comment on a video about the loading system. I was curious how the ships unloaded back in the day and that one comment named the equipment.

I’m a civil engineer. Street cars and subways are not the same. There’s a street car bridge nearby so building a separate subway track would make no sense. They are not the same system.

Can you do a video about the King's Island and Miami Valley Railroad? It's the train ride at King's Island, and it also uses actual steam locomotives (they burn propane, and were constructed in 1970.

I have a personal relationship with the Hulett's. My uncle, who at the time worked for Cleveland Cliffs shipping Company. In the Mid 70's. Was on his ship. And I was visiting. I was only TEN. But I was watching the operator working his Hulett. And he stopped and asked if I wanted a ride ? My Uncle said it was OK. And yes for about 20 minutes, I got to ride in an Actual Hulett in The port of Cleveland Ohio. We should reassemble them and make it part of our Shipping heritage !!,

4:16, All I have to say is that the Merida, for the region it was built in, certainly had a unique design before it was rebuilt. Made it look a little more like an Ocean-Going Vessel than a Lake Freighter.

When I see the historic pictures of guys doing work like shoveling ore out of a ships hold, I feel grateful to have been born in a time and a place where I don't have to do horribly dirty and dangerous work like that.

I cant imagine the cost of dismantling whats there just to move it to another site much less the restoration cost and reassembly and getting them functional again BUT if i was rich i would have it moved to NC and set up in my back yard just because lol. I love old iron and anything that was built with pride and long term reliability vs the mess we have now that is thrown together with short life expectancy from day one

Wow seems the road pals and no vision for the future conspired to crush the concept. You also lost a football team at the same time and the baseball team started to tank the balance of the next 2 decades. So the whole thing just slides down

Lived in Cleveland from 1984-92 and worked downtown. I was at the groundbreaking for the waterfront and the grand opening of Tower City Center. I well remember those grim days in the middle 80's when Terminal Tower was on life support. It's great to see that its incredible value to the city continuing to be recognized.
