I’m watching this video in 2024, I worked in a call center in the 90’s, it was bad, but I survived. In 2022 I applied for a job on Indeed and was contacted by a recruiter for a customer service position and told if I took that job, I could transfer in six months to another position. That’s easier said than done, almost impossible to transfer in my company. It’s after Covid so I work remote, and even working from home in call center work is horrible. The metrics are ridiculous, every minute of our day is accounted for, restroom breaks are counted and posted, we can’t escalate calls and get yelled at several times a day, it’s rare to have a day with no irate customers. I work in medial billing and do not recommend it. Many people take the job because they can work from home, but the turnover rate is still very high. Most people just cannot take it. Besides the calls and metrics, you are tied to your desk. We have to use their headsets which are connected to the computer! Pay is average and raises are rare. I’m tolerating it for a few more months and will be retiring soon. I’m counting down the days. Remote call center work is still a call center job, you’re still a robot.

My first call center job was working for roadside assistance for a luxury car brand. I worked at that job for two years and it was the worst job ever!
