Hello Brad!! The Mattock or other hidden items appear every 4 rooms where there is a secret item. The count changes only when you visit a room where there is a secret item like the Mattock. So, once you understand this, you can easily get a Mattock every time that you kill all the monsters in that room since you'll know when to fight them. :) Also, I like to fight without equipping any shield, so since I use Ointments a lot to be free from injury, magic will go through my body and won't push or hurt me, though it would if I had an equipped shield. Did you ever think about making a Faxanadu game editor? I'd create at least 10 hacks with it haha! And I'll DEFINITELY make at least one Legacy of the Wizard hack because of you man! DREAM come true!!! Thank you sooooo much!!!

Ah, I see. Thanks for the extra clarification. No, I have not considered making an editor for Faxanadu, though I think an older one may already exist.

@@Sakanakao Thanks for your answer! I tried that old one, but it was not complete. We could not save our progress to begin with. I'll release Legacy of the Lizard (NES Hack) in 2025 if everything keeps going well! Yes, Lizard! Not Wizard haha! We both know Kaeon BTW! :)

Would it be possible to make an external adapter board that "patches" the game to accommodate the delay? Something that wouldn't require a unique version of the game?

Now I know why in my youth, when I had a Famicon clone as every kid from behind the recently lifted iron curtain did, the gun sometimes worked when put against an ordinary lightbulb. I always thought the original does too and was very surprised that you had this issue.

I wonder if any of these solutions could be adapted to work with the Plus-X Terminator Laser (yeah, that's what it's called!) for the MSX microcomputer. I own one, along with the pack-in game Dungeon Hunter (a first-person dungeon crawler gallery shooter hybrid!), but do not own a CRT and thus have only ever been able to play it at a friend's place.

So since you said the light from modern tvs is slower to release than the old crt tvs, thus making new games give me less time to react while gaming,,, does that mean that's the reason I'm so much slower at games now and its not me getting old???? They really need to bring back hd crt tvs. I still have mine that can do component cables in 420p and I love when I get the chance to still use the old stuff on it, its so crisp and clear.

Easily the BEST video on the subject. Usually people are just rambling about some weird assumptions how the hardware in light guns "usually" works (c64, playstation, dreamcast etc.), while NES implementation is way more simple. Only thing I would add is, with 3rd party light gun & patched ROMs, it still won't work on every flatscreen TV (no idea why). And the worst thing, the best light gun game - Gumshoe - is not patched...

Well, any program could be ported to many platforms, but it's really a question of whether someone wants to. I don't need a web version, and I definitely don't want to double the surface area that I have to maintain with this. However, if you want to create a web port, I'd be happy to link to it. Is web Mono able to replicate Winforms at least?

You should probably know that the vanilla released game has a bug: You start with the power of the Pendant from the Tower of Suffer "on" and when you collect it, it turns the power off. There are patches out there that fix the issue, but this makes the game NES Hard+. Personally, I'm of the school of thought that the pendant is cursed and makes you weaker, which would align with the Tower of Suffer's name, but the deep dive coders are right on this instance - it is a bug because of the way the memory address opcodes are set up. Game Genie code eyneoaei fixes it. I remember that I used to sell mattocks for fast cash early game.

The gun needs to see both the white and the black both . Originally it only needed light but that caused players to aim the gun at a lamp and it righters a hit. So it needs to see the black, which then allows it to look for the white square. If it sees it then it's a hit. If not, then the duck is lucky. It's set for 60 fields on a 240P resolution. (Typically only 224 lines where really visable.) while only half the resolution, that didn't matter as it only refreshed the same lines over and over rather then alternating . As long as it's 60 times it's fine as far as the CRT cares. With even a 480P LED tv it has to double that resolution. You have the buffer, and the upscaling and that takes time. And it's looking for brightness in phosphorus dots, not led lights. Our old tvs had that glow new TV's dont
