I don't understand the trick to fold without having to trim the pages afterwards. As the outer sheet has further to go (round the rest of the pages) it can't end up even at the open edge whatever you do. You have to trim it, don't you? I couldn't quite see what you were doing to avoid that.

This is such a great tutorial. No long intros, no annoying music, simple and clear instructions, offering DIY options instead of insisting on buying the highest quality tool - more people should follow your example!

Wow, you're a true master. This is stunning and amazing. I'm following your beginning bookbinding series now. I've only just discovered this craft, and I love it already. I'm also into other painstakingly old crafts (I knit and spin yarn on a spinning wheel). There's something about the making process that is truly satisfying in a way that other escapisms can't compete with. I have an old and well-loved copy of the Lord of the Rings that is damaged, with pages falling out, and has come unglued from the cover that I would like to rebind at some point; you are an inspiration!

Considering I watched this video a solid year after you posted it, how can I feel guilty, like I cursed you, because right before you made the tooling error, I thought "It would suck to make a mistake at this point"? I'm sorry for doing that to you.

somehow I was under the impression that those were ingots of that marbled paper. No idea how you would even make that, but bricks are a far reasonable explanation lol

I'd absolutely commission one of these. I'd especially love this dome with 3rd Edition's PHB, and all the "Races of..." books. Edit: I'm moving next month and have been thinking about some hobbies I can get into. This video, not even a third of the way through, has sold me on book-binding.

My daughter works at a library and they get donations from community members all the time and have to throw books out! She brings home boxes of them for me to use in junk journaling. People always get indignant about books being tossed, but the reality is that so many of them are just plain unwanted for a variety of reasons. Thanks, Dennis, for showing how to reclaim and reuse!

Super great tutorial! The only detail I didn’t hear you mention is when finishing the pamphlet stitch, make sure your threads are not on the same side of the thread running up the crease. One thread on each side. That way, when you tie your knot to finish, you’ll be tying down the middle thread, too. Thanks, Dennis!
