It's all the remains of antediluvian trees, everything in Yosemite valley, including the fresh water coming continuously off the cliffs in the famous "falls". Hangman1128 "Mike" is the righteous human God allowed to reveal this truth, which most PhD geologists will turn their noses up at and not look into the truth.

I camped with my young daughter at yosemite 5 or 6 times 7 days each trip and we used to swim inn tame spots along the rivers, despite warninngs from rannngers. One year a man asked us if we had seen his friend along the trail who was missing from the day before, his friend was found dead in the river the very next day.I THANK GOD FOR KEEPINNG MY PRETEEN DAUGHTER AND MYSELF SAFE ALL THOSE YEARS AT YOSEMITE.

Great information. If black bears no longer associate humans with easy food, and people lock up their food, it would be a lot safer. There were a lot of black bears in the Laurentions, NW of Montreal, when I was a kid. When we went to pick blueberries, we would make lots of noise as we approached the berry patch. That scared way any bears. We would see fresh bear footprints, but never saw the bears.

My first visit to Yosemite was in 1969. Seemed like there were almost as many bears as campers back then. Sigh...

A couple years ago tried crossing a river in Yosemite to get back to my campsite early I ended up stopping because it was hard to walk in water with hiking boots. It was a familiar part of the river where my relatives have been going for nearly twice as long as I have been alive so I could gauge the risk, especially since I had already swam in it. But to know this might happen if it was a wetter year (it was a dry one so I felt safe in my attempt to cross) or if it was an unfamiliar place brings me relief and fear in equal parts.

I remember when my friend went into the water, his head hit the bottom in under a second and got knocked out; It’s like going under free fall, you don’t float at all. He died later due to internal bleeding and due to his head being smashed to half the size it was beforehand.
