When I heard that there were actually MULTIPLE versions of this movie, it ALREADY gave me red flags, because that meant they had to recreate it SEVERAL times over! And, as an animation student, I knew that would not be an easy undertaking!

i think an important distinction about spider-verse's staff being overworked was not specifically to rush something out the door, but to perfect it in every way. that perfection involved constant doevers from phil, which caused constant headaches with the animation staff. from what ive read about it, it seems like what once was a healthy work culture was turned into something not with the pressure of following up the game changer that was itsv. hopefully, with them now understanding the dos and do nots of this pressure, more planning can be put into make development smoother. because lord and miller are incredibly talented filmmakers, hopefully atsv can serve as the first trial run of making a movie of this caliber (remember, astv was almost an hour longer than the OG) and that the production of beyond will be smoother.

As as someone who loves animation and is an aspiring animator the news was shocking. Part of me was hoping it wasn’t true but the lack of push back is a little telling. I hope they delay part 3 to let the animators rest. Maybe with the writers and actors strikes the animators can take inspiration and start demanding better working conditions.

i think they were working on part 2 and 3 at the same time. Later on they decided to split it, so a chunk of the new movie is probably already done. im not too sure though take this with a grain of salt

@@YassinYoussef-dn5xjthey said in the vulture article they were NOT working on it at the same time. They have some pre-production tests and experiments for beyond the spider-verse that they made before they split it - but nothing more than that. The voice actors haven't recorded any lines. Beyond the spider-verse is definitely not getting finished anytime soon lol

We are in a very weird spot because there's no way the film will be completed anytime soon. With everything this film hinted and iterated Beyond will have to be like 3 hours to give somewhat of a fullfilling ending. They need better communication and better conditions so I think we are here for the long run but that's okay with me.

I doubt it will get any better unfortunately. With AI and technology advancing it will allow solo creators or small teams to make their own movies. At the same time this means that big studios will value individual artists less as technology can replace the common artists who used to do the majority of the work. In the end I think the way Hollywood works will just have to change but who knows what the future holds.

"I'm gonna get medieval on yo ass...". I watched in a theatre when it first came out and that line did bring out a response from the audience. The response was something like an "oh shit, this guy is going to be hating what's left of his life" chuckle. Everybody in the audience was very engaged.

Just watched it over the weekend. It was an abstract artsy film. It was well paced but there sliding from the writer to the actors to the scenes was jarring. It was like the movie wanted me to forget I was watching the movie. I'm not sure how so many big names were a part of this, when the scenes never really stood out.

Tbh I think the repetition is intentional. The film is about two main things imo: art and identity in the face of existential unknowns. Anderson is rehashing a lot of the visual ideas he’s used before, but with an increasing knowledge of what they represent. The film is a play within a play and Anderson calls more attention than ever to the artifice. This plays into the second theme of identity, as all the characters have begun to lose sight of themselves in the face of great existential unknowns. For some it’s the alien, for others God, and others death. For Augie it’s death, and in the face of death he loses himself in the world of the film. The actor’s identity is mixed with that of his character’s, or vice versa. The style reinforces that. film so caught up in constructing the world of Asteroid City that the meaning gets lost along the way. No one really knows what the alien represents, no one knows why Augie burns his hand on the quickie griddle. It takes Augie literally removing himself from the film world and breaking the forth wall to even recognize this. He has to confront the fact that he doesn’t know to start on a path to knowledge. He can’t wake up unless he’s gone to sleep. He can’t live without first confronting life. I think AI plays a part in this story as well. Someone said that bc of his style Anderson’s is the filmmaker most at threat from AI, and I agree. I think part of the story is recognizing that existential threat something like AI poses and saying that it doesn’t matter. What matters is the attempt to create something profound and find great knowledge; to go to sleep and dream and hopefully wake up with greater understanding. It’s the pursuit of knowledge that makes art, and life, worthwhile. The visuals are only so deep; there’s still a world on the other side of the screen. Break through it and you can’t find a way forward. Anyway that’s a lot of words, I just have a lot of thoughts about this movie lol. Whole lot to unpack.

I dont have the same love for this scene (i love it but i dont hold is above ALL the others) but it is really cool to see some people get something that meaningful out of it, i feel like every scene has an audience that considers it the best and has a good reason for doing so.

"Say goodnight Raquel" "Good night Raquel" is NOT poor dialogue! This is exactly how hipsters her age spoke in the 90s, it indicates her personality. That was a clicheed in-joke of the time, not a Tarantino joke. It's much like someone might say "barely an inconvenience" today.

The Saxophone might be harder for younger people to understand. In the 1970s, pornographic films had that kind of saxophone, to indicate sexual debauchery. It's non-diagetic, pornographic music, meant to indicate rape. In addition to what you said, which is also correct.
