Nope. Didn’t replace the struts or tires either. And you didn’t pay attention to the problem that was being chased. Rotors would have nothing to do with the specific issue.

I have the most obscure question for Mr Ian Thomas. Here it goes. When I was really young in about 1980, I worked at a printing place. One of the guys there mentioned he knew or was related to Ian Thomas, at least that's what I think I remember he said. I forget his name but I think he was from Devon alberta. Does this ring any bells Mr thomas?

@CasselmanCanada2 ай бұрын
Our Canadian model was the same from about 2003-2007. Mine had the access point after I made this video. But I also did not know the answer until I drilled the small hole first and had looked for the general location from beneath.

Thank you!. I have a conversion van and the side panels that are all show and dressed fiberglass go near the ground. I have done 2 tank removals and both were on Chevy Suburban's. Those vehicles were easier only because I live in Florida with no rust and one was 6 inch lifted by a previous owner. Still a MASSIVE pain to remove all of that stuff AND THEN try dragging it out and getting more jacks and adjusting. back to the van. I measure many many times by crawling under and feeling the pump location and a mirror. Mt reference was the mounting holes for the mid captain seats. Sawzall(nope, to radical no mater the angle, besides to deep), Jig saw(works but the blade travel is not workable for the hoses out of site and the ribbed floor variation). Solution was oddly perfect. I drilled pilot holes for the other attempts and those holes with the drill on very low rotation were fast and did not go deep. I just made drill holes in a line on three sides, bent back the opening and then as this video shows "thanks Casselman" the rest took minutes. I even used a rubber mallet and got the pump to hum 3 times after 10 attempts confirming it was bad. Plan to bend lid back down and JB weld.

I had 6 installations, one a week for six weeks, and there was no pain at all. The facility I went to is not using numbing gel due to a shortage since covid started.
@CasselmanCanada6 ай бұрын
Without starting with the numbing sounds like cruel and unusual punishment. Those people can be pretty good at their job and it only takes a few seconds to squirt in some of that numbing gel/lubricant after they do the cleaning swab. By the time they turn around and pick up the tubes and the large syringes to install the chemicals the gel will have started to take effect. Are you sure you were watching them closely enough to see they skipped that step? That hose doesn't have to be very large at all so the chemical install catheter is pretty thin (not big like a camera cysto). But without the gel lubricant would be too awkward for them every time- all day long to be doing it that way.

What is the metal bracket that the lower control mounts into.. Im Referring to the metal part that is behind the brake drum/caliper . Currently looking at a Patriot but that part is rusted out. Not sure if it's replaceable or the name of it .
@CasselmanCanada7 ай бұрын
I think you are referring to the rear control arm. Large piece that has a pivot at the front and mounting points for the strut and the piece I replaced fastens to. I know I called the two pieces I replaced control arms as that is what I had to order but I think they are called "lateral links" and the piece you want is called the control arm. I don't know anything about this website but it shows the two pieces with names on them. somarmotor.com/jeep-compass-patriot-mk-07-17-suspension/

It was commented on the Part 1 of this video that I forgot to show the reinstallation of the shift forks. Yep, sorry I did forget to show those and installing the side cover too. Since the rebuild, I have tested it and all is OK. However it all had to come apart again because the new speedo gear I installed had 7 teeth and it should have been 6 as was in there to begin with. 21 teeth is as many as you can buy for the driven, and my tires were to small to get a correct reading. Take note that this is not an easy transmission to swap the drive gear for the speedo. The large snap ring that holds the rear bearing into the output housing needs to be removed from inside the transmission and then the whole gear assembly too. So be sure you get the correct gear installed before you button it up. I did it fairly quickly by drilling a large hole in a chair and setting the transmission nose down into the hole. Then I could pull the whole gear assembly out, do the gear swap, add some grease to the bearings so they don't flop around and then put the assembly back together. Fairly quickly is only a relative term when comparing to the 3 speed top loader. The gear is not an easy one to source as you may have found if you have been looking. 7 teeth is easy but likely only useful if you have 3.89 or higher gears. I took a 6 tooth plastic gear out of my spare 3 speed top loader as it was the same and in good condition. Crazy thing was that I was starting with a 7/21 tooth ratio and moved to a 6/18. Same ratio. But now I can try 17 and 19 teeth driven to fiddle with ratios.
@Nicks66Service2 ай бұрын
Have what appears a ruined side-loader here, in a 1960 T-Bird. Only Reverse and 2nd gears. Pops out of 1st, will not hit 3rd. Lost cause?
@CasselmanCanada2 ай бұрын
That sounds like the adjustment is off on the linkages. So if the ball detent is not clicked maybe under load it pops out. Possible the rubber pieces are so worn on the column shift levers that it does not allow them to move the shift rods far enough to fully engage. Can you get it up in the air and try doing the shifts with the rods disconnected. Back lever is 1-R and front is 2-3. If that all works then it is time to open it up. 1st gear may have no teeth left. 3rd synchro cage may be broken. BTW, if you locate a trans from a 6 cyl application, the 1st rear will be a bit lower than your 8 cyl version.

I just use a spare driveshaft slip yoke. But if you did the rebuild you might not fill it until you finish the install and any assembly fluid would be too low to run out.
