When I get a small tear or hole in the surrounds of my subs...as long as they're small, I dab a lil automotive RTV silicone...AND CONTINUE BANGIN....haven't had one blow out yet. My old ass spl ears can't hear any diffence at all.

@@whocarezbj6152 I would recommend the same approach for small holes but using e-6000 over a silicone product but, that’s just IMO. pretty sure i put a drill through my Rockford HX2 surrounded many moons ago and patched with e-6000 and a piece of bicycle tire inner tube… If it works, it works. 😊

generation 3-5 are all pretty similar 2nd generation have smaller coils (2” instead of 2.58”) and taller baskets. 1st generation have single role surround smaller coils and no spider mounting ring. 1-3 all have cardboard dustups which are more challenging to salvage…. from a rebuilding perspective i prefer 4-5

you can cut them and lay them flat and add CA glue for them , DC audio does it and they call it the SPL neck option

IMO not complicated at all. Free handing has a huge potential for error, crooked cuts etc. By using a technique such as the one demonstrated here you eliminate that potential, Zero measuring required, line up blade and let r rip.

Hey Mr m I know you're going to think I'm crazy but I dry fit everything market where I want to cut it use some good masking tape measure it all the way around and put a thin cut blade on a grinder it works really good

I have not made one in a while. i think lord of bass or Springfield Speaker would be your best bet. I have had varying success, so they would be able to provide a more reliable product

I have a couple questions? Will a D2 coil fit inside a D4 motor? Where can you get Soft Parts do you have a link to the part's? I have a RFD 2212 and I want to put a RFD 2112 coil in it. I know the first gen and 2nd gen used to save soft parts different dust covers.. what is the D4 and a D2 Gap the same?.

@@jonathannoble4844 I think HCCA have alignment pins which I did not use for these subs. I have other videos that show my shim process. Maybe setting VC Height in Sub 101 ? Unfortunately the videos get long so in order to keep them in manageable chunks I try to trim out redundant processes.

@@TomJordan-e5s You need to balance your X-Mech variables. I made a video about it. As X-max increases, x-mech decreases. I like to pair my voice coil and motor so that X-mech is 1.5 times X-max.

I do believe you could get away with a thinner plastic basket on lower power subs, but I'd love to see a durable basket. These would definitely be mounted sub up or done in a plexi box!!! Easy fix, nail polish remover will remove the coil glue. Clean the former and use another epoxy.

@@okiedokie3845 might be easier to replace the cone ands surround as one unit 🤷♂️. either way it’s doable. check springfield speaker repair for both surround and cone, LofB for Cones, they may also have surround but less options. maybe look at simply speakers as well

Actually held up pretty good. Preliminary test did 135 at 27Hz. I m hoping to get them to 140 before they fail but haven’t pushed them that hard yet
