CDL Story Time How I got into Truck Driving, because of the traveling 🧳 and the money I heard I can make plus it chance my life for the better, this was back in 2015 At the time I was homeless sleeping on my ex auntie couch me and her was cool she’s in her late 50s at the time my ex pretty much left me for another man with more money he was a drug dealer and I couldn’t compete with that me and her was going though financial problems and she broke up with me I had No car No money No credit ( 403 credit score No bank account No connections No family who wanted to help me So I understood and I needed to work on myself anyway, At the time I was living in a small town Illinois.. I end up getting me a car wash job the first week I got the job this brother came to my job to get his White Corvette 2015 stingray car wash he told me what type of car it was and I ask him what he did for a living. He told me he was a OTR truck driver he show me his pay-stabs I saw 1,400 to 2,200 I even saw 2,600 checks he was making that type of money every week too he got paid weekly at the time I was lucky to make 290 dollars a week Than he told me about CRST The Transportation Solution in Cedar Rapids Iowa He told me they have a trucking school and I can stay at their dorms plus they will pay me too, he told me to study for my CDL permit and get it before I go to school So that’s what I did, i would walk to the library and study to get my CDL permit I didn’t tell anyone my plan I also called the school in I got my affairs in order and got accepted to the school but I wasn’t getting ship to June 10, 2015 My ex girlfriend found out about me living with her auntie and she didn’t like that at all and gave her a hard time so I was force to leave her auntie didn’t want no drama I didn’t blame her and I understood. Lucky I saved some money, and it was June 8, 2015 and I had some money saved so I got me a hotel room I only had a black plastic bag full of clothes I was at the room for a few days than I was ship to Iowa on a greyhound when I got there It was a lot of us there I became friends with two people one was a girl from Chicago and another was a white boy from Arkansas. They was homeless as well same with some others in my class the dorms wasn’t the best but hey it was better than noting in I wasn’t going to waste my opportunity. I study my ass off same with my two friends, Jessica is her name and his name was Fred she was 21 years old he was 25 years old same with me. Some people actually drop out of trucking school because some it wasn’t for them some others didn’t pay attention and was worry about chasing women or men and partying. After I passed CRST it was one of the best days in my life I passed the test at my first than it was off to work my first check was 1,162.45 after taxes I got paid that in a week. I stayed with CRST and went OTR I saved a lot of money because I didn’t have no bills just a cell phone bill I would go to bars all over the country when I took my 48 hour reset I would go shopping and put my clothes in a storage unit I saved 35,000 dollars my first year and got a bank account I also paid off some debts and got my credit better, after the first year out my contract I got a new job with a family owned company Blue Road Trucking he only had 20 trucks but man he was paying good he usually wanted two year of experience but I help him at the truck stop when another trucker and his friend was trying to jump on him and I wasn’t haven’t no younger men jump on a older men in front of me so I scare the men off He told me he owe me one and offer me a job once my contract was up he was based out of Racine WI and i actually like visiting Milwaukee WI because I was chilling with a girl from there at the time He paid me .79 cents per mile for OTR I was running 2,500 to 3,300 miles a week my checks after taxes was 1,850 to 2,400 a week sometimes I would get 2,800 dollars checks because of safety bonuses he gave us. I ran four years under that company i actually max out at .89 cents per mile still running 2,500 to 3,300 miles a week seeing big money weekly I’m talking about 3,000 dollars checks now I saved my money and got my credit score to 792 credit score and I was ready one year I ran so hard I made 123,000 that year. I was tired of being OTR and ask can I do some semi local work meaning I can be home 3 days a week sometimes 4 a week. I end up buying me a condo in Milwaukee it cost 150,000 dollars I put 60k to the deal i got a three bedroom two bath in a nice area with a walk in closet than I brought me a white dodge challenger 2019 I put 15k down on it Fast Forward ⏩ Now I own an apartment complex who I rent out to people who is 55 years and older it’s a 10 unit and a 6 bedroom house I rent out 450 dollars per room My condo is paid off and my car is paid off and I’m married now, I went back to my hometown to visit my ex auntie and thank her at the time I had one my gold Rolex a fresh haircut and Gucci polo with sneakers I look like money that day No one knew was a truck driver I told her auntie everything and she was proud of me and crazy thing was my ex was living with her and walk in on us talking in the living room first thing she ask was “ Who dodge challenger is that” Than she saw me I actually look different I started lifting weights and gain 50 pounds and got a lot of tattoos since she saw me and cut my hair I saw she had two kids with the man she left me with but he got lock up in prison and she started try to flirt with me once she found out I got money now and own real estate but I told he I was married boy she look dumb. So yes truck driving changed my life and my friends life as well my friend Fred he started his owned trucking company he has 10 trucks under his company he actually brought him 5 acres of land in Arkansas and build him a 8 bedroom house with 4 bathroom He’s actually a Millionaire he got him a government contract, he’s married now as well with twins he got him a Blue Ford F350 My friend she started her own company as well and drive a pink Peter belt custom made she’s working with Fred on the government contract moving loads to Texas to Chicago she’s getting 12k a week off that contract she doesn’t want any more trucks she’s happy with running with one truck under her company. She’s brought her a house and a black 2023 Mercedes 500, we still talk all the time and sometimes visit each other and talk our trucking school days and how we was broke and homeless. One day when I’m ready I get a trucking company ready as well but I’m not in a rush right now I got some other things I got going I started a publishing company as well and wrote five books. I hope I motivated yall about getting into trucking.

I would like to drive solo but as a beginner I believe I need to drive as a team first to get the feeling of it and have that extra eye if something should arise when I need the help. Two brains behind the wheel is better than one in my opinion. It all depends on if you feel comfortable of driving on your own. Most companies provide a training period with a trainer regardless if your driving solo or teams but after that training period that may not be enough for people to feel comfortable driving alone. That where teams come into play. If you’re someone like me who prefers solo driving but you inexperienced. My advice is to stick it out with a team for the first couple of months. Discuss it with your partner to let them know of how long you want to stay teams, it could be 3 months or 6 months. Only because eventually you want to go solo.

If you are able to work on your feet for 6 -8 hours every day you should get certified to weld. Schooling is similar and you will make more money welding. The big trucking companies will screw you until you quit.
