Overall the garden seems to be doing well after that wild weather. Your poor rhubarb though . Maybe it can still repair itself. Mine is looking sad , losing leaves , I think it's hungry so I've fed it worm wee . I'll see how it goes. Rhubarb is something that I've never had success with . I planted out my horrid looking Summer veg today. I think they'll be better off in the bed than in pots for me. Thanks for the tour lovely ❤❤

Thankfully the rhubarb will be okay and will have new shoots to harvest from in no time. I need to clean the plants up a bit. Rhubarb loves manure, so maybe give yours some? I hope your seedlings go well in your garden beds. 🤞❤️

Hi Amy. Lovely sunshine and your garden is looking good for the time of year and the severe winter you have had. Does your drip system run from a dam? Does it ever clog up? I haven't installed one but would love to, just worried about this happening and being an issue.

Thanks, I’m happy that some of my garden survived the bad weather. Yes, we pump up from our dams and send the water through a filter so that the drippers don’t get clogged. I do have to clean out the occasional dripper though. We pump to a tank and then it gravity feeds the animals water and the garden. Although the water flows faster when we are pumping and in summer time when we’re filling the tank we put the irrigation on so that everything gets a good water. Definitely worth having a good filter. I’ll do a video on the filter soon to show you. I hope that helps!

You can look up your growing zone on the link I've put in the description of this video. I usually wait a bit longer to plant out corn. I've started the seeds inside and they are coming up now. They are a bit tricky as they don't like the cold. The seeds can also rot if there's too much rain, so starting them inside is best. I hope that helps!

@@ben4078 it’s neither, just lets you know that you are in a warmer climate than I am, so you should be able to plant things out earlier than me. Central North Island, New Zealand, still getting to nearly 0 some nights. I have tomatoes in pots but resisting the urge to plant out. Traditionally it is Labour Weekend to plant the vegetable garden (last weekend in October) but we often wait until early November. A frost this month killed 3 of my 15 tomatoes, all off the ground and under cover. Not sure why 3 frosted and the rest were fine. We can get frosts here any month of the year so will have to bitecthe bullet sometime.

Resisting the urge sounds like a good idea. Interesting that three plants died out of your 15. Do you cover your tomatoes throughout the summer at night? Must be hard having the chance of frost any time of the year, but its always so lovely and green over there in NZ compared to how dry it gets here.

Hi Amy. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am in Pakenham VIC. My tomato babies are inside and about 6 weeks old. Still getting nice and strong. I had always followed the idea to plant out cup weekend but I felt last year that was just too late and my harvest seemed to be super delayed. I have been wondering if I could chance them out a little earlier seeing as our nights have been quite warm already compared to previous years, other than a couple of drops here and there. I like the idea of getting a few out and seeing how they go so I might do a staggered planting. Especially seeing as i always start way too many and never have the heart to dump them. @@ThreeBarrowFarm Thankyou for the good wishes! So far this year, we have now had 3 days in a row of cold, but calm sunny weather. Very wild crazy winds, rain and snow late in September. I haven't even thought about sowing tomatoes yet. I sowed them on a hot bed under cover last year, and they took about 6 weeks to germinate anyway. One of my many jobs is to replace the tattered polythene on my greenhouse with polycarbonate. When I first built it, I had magnificent pink brandywines and black Russian tomatoes. But only until mid March, when frost froze everything to mush one night. I need to build a rocket mass heater inside a greenhouse, to have any success.

Your tomato plants look amazing 🤩 I have a brown thumb when it comes to anything in pots . I've been forcing myself to only grow from seed for the last few years ,other than occasionally gifts of seedlings from MIL or last minute desperation when the season is running out and I still have no capsicum sprouting, for instance. We are in SEQLD on 5 acres with a north facing slope , on paper our place ticks all the boxes but in reality our annual rainfall is very low and the ground is pretty awful. We were completely spoiled on our last homestead . It is improving but it's taking a huge volume of inputs , if I started here again, I would order a truck load of compost and another of cow poo ,and then attempt to garden. Chicken tractors have been an amazing tool though. I can see exactly where they've improved over the last 4 yrs. My seedlings , really they're no more than sprouts are looking terrible. I may have to just direct sow again ,as I have slightly better success with that way . Thank you for the video to enjoy with my lunch. ❤❤

The best thing about potatoes in pots is no digging to harvest them - just tip them over on a tarp. From my unscientific experiments I have found that my potatoes in pots prefer blood & bone to fish emulsion and the only thing I've found that doesn't like seaweed extract is liliums. I saw in one of your comments that you wanted to add lime for the calcium - can't remember at the moment what the difference is, but remember that there is garden lime and then there is dolomite when you do your research. For the time being maybe just add some crushed egg shells from your chooks until you have time for that. Couldn't help but notice that you were more smiley and relaxed after a little gardening and sunshine so wishing you some Peace until you have more opportunity to enjoy both of these good things.

I’ll definitely put that on and I think I just started to ramble in the funny state I was in because I don’t think I’ll be using lime. I use gypsum or dolomite to fix the calcium levels in my garden usually, but I think I’ll leave it out of the pots. I’ll wait until the green shoots pop up and amend if needed. Thanks again! Such a shame when Mother Nature hits and the destruction it can cause in just a couple of minutes. I saw some photos of Castlemaine streets and it looked like a winter wonderland with the huge amount of hail. We only got a little rain and distant thunder down my way.

So glad you didn't get the hail. Castlemaine sure did receive a lot of hail and there's a lot of damage to some roofs. It was such an odd day. So sunny and then a 15 minute storm. Crazy!

Your poor garden. I hope most things recover for you . We had the worst storm i remember in my life about 8 years ago now. It was terrifying. Have you checked your roof and gutters for damage? I am really glad that those kind of storms don't happen regularly too. Stay safe and warm lovely, thank you for sharing ❤❤

Thank you so much, our roof is fine, but there was ice up there for such a long time after. It eventually melted before we went to bed. I'm so glad there aren't too many of these storms too!

I know how you feel my garden got hit by hail 2yrs ago and it was when it was at its peek 😔 it was devastating but i was great full that i had harvested a lot from the garden already 🙂 but to look at the destruction was horrible and 2 yrs on some of my fruit trees still have major scaring from the hail but i have made some improvements that will hopefully help next time 🤞🙏 I hope everything recovers for you .

Gosh, that would have been incredibly hard being in the peek of growth. Glad you had harvested from the garden beforehand. Would be interested to know what improvements you've made to help for next time. Thanks for watching!

Tish, mate. So much copped it. A lot will come back (probably the weed, GROAN) but it's heartbreaking to see the damage. Replant your carrot, you can always thin it out later. Our Frankston region is in for a crappy week so I'm holding off on planting out.

Thank you, I might just re sow the carrot seed. That's a great idea! I'm keeping a close eye on the weather now and might hold off planting as well. Although I need to get more potatoes planted, but they will be underground. Hoping your garden is okay over the next week of bad weather.

It missed us, but Castlemaine 15 minutes away looked like snow and a torrential downpour. I was in Castlemaine after lunch and it was beautiful sunny weather, then I got home and the thunder and lightning started, but we only had a little rain. My son came home later and told us about the torrential hail in town and we started seeing video online. We were oblivious!

Yes! Two of my kids were in Castlemaine at the time. They said it was scary but amazing too. There were rivers going down the streets, which to be honest always happens in Castlemaine when there's a big downpour, but that hail! So glad you weren't driving in the storm, that would have been scary!

I love the no dig way of gardening and use it in the beds raised and on the ground. Rethinking the way we garden is an important step and at my age of 65, the less work the better for my old back. 👒🧤🧣

I used an old plastic tent floor to smother the cape weed. Worked well. I removed the tent floor once it started to break down. Hadn't started to pull apart but it had changed colour so removed that and away we went. Horribe stuff cape weed
