I Les a group of backpackers into the area many years ago. We hiked from Snoqualmie Pass on the PCT across Kendall Karwalk above Spectale Lake and then dropped down to camp there. We completed our trip at Pete’s Lake. It was a great hike.

Hi, Kara. My name’s Chris. I came across your channel a couple weeks ago when searching for videos about The Wonderland Trail which I’m excited to backpack next summer. I have greatly enjoyed watching your videos, and I hadn’t considered backpacking/hiking other trails in WA until I watched your videos. Wow! Yes! “Stunning!” The Tahoe area is beautiful as well. I live close to Tahoe and hike or mountain bike there as much as I can. Desolation has also been next on my “to backpack” list for a little over a month, and I’m excited to do that hopefully in the next few weeks! I had already planned on spending most of my 2025 summer adventure trip (Teacher here) in WA, BC, & AB (Whistler & Banff) and would greatly appreciate hearing what your top recommended WA day-hike and backpacking routes are so I could add them to my list, even if you haven’t posted videos about those places. I am also interested in knowing what resources you use to help guide your day-hike and backpacking trail choices. If it would be easier to format a response in an email instead of in your comments section, that’s fine with me. Whatever suits your fancy. If you’d like, you may email me at the address I have listed on my channel. (Just as a heads-up though, KZbin makes contact information visible only when one accesses that information via computer and not via smart phone). Thank you for your help, Kara. I admire your kind and humble demeanor. You’d be a lot of fun to hike with if you’d be up for some company on a day-hike!

Am curious what specifically your 6 day itinerary was and how you found it? (like which sites you had and if you thought the whole thing was pretty doable in 6 days, I know most people take 7-10)

The road is one of the worst I have ever driven to get to the trailhead. Broke exhaust studs on my truck.
@karahikesАй бұрын
Yeah, it’s pretty terrible. Somehow I misremembered the road conditions and drove my sedan (parked a few miles short of the trailhead). Do not recommend - stressful drive. Def need a trail car for this.

Hey Kara, love your videos. Have inspired me to get back into hiking and hopefully some backpacking/overnighters. Question... what doe your kitchen kit look like? Stove/pot/etc? And do you pack a bear cannister? I live in Washington St too.
@karahikes2 ай бұрын
That’s great! My camp kitchen depends on the trip. For most summer backpacks I tend to go stoveless and will cold soak. Some overnights I still bring a stove and then spring/fall I always bring a stove. Hot coffee and hot dinners ate nice :) The stove I use is the MSR pocket rocket and I use there mini solo cook pot. I have a separate light weight coffee cup I picked up for cheap from Sierra trading post years ago. I use the 450v bear can for food storage. Most hikes I go on it’s not required to have a bear can, but it’s peace of mind knowing I am storing my food properly.

Interesting to note how the former reservoir bottom has brushed over except for the active river channel. A few more decades and it will transition to valley bottom forest, as it was before the dam was built.
