I picked up two, very similar on Temu the both of them for 50 bucks. Much better than spending 200 to 1000+ for a reel without any drag.

How do you find the 5.75 to use, compared to an islander for example? I have a 4.75 Raven matrix and a 4.5 islander steelheader, but am interested in an imperial. However, i can't decide if i should go with the 4.75 or the 5.75. The large reel looks great and i like the idea of faster pickup, but not sure if i would regret it/find it too big. Do you notice a large difference with the retrieve? I use an 11.5 to 12 foot float rod on medium sized rivers, typically 20 or 15 lb mono mainline. Any advice is appreciated. Cheers

bought it - ordered ceramic bearings for $20 (orange - you can find the size on you tube) and it spins fantastic with no resistance at all. I also moved the knobs inboard more - easy to do. 60 bucks and it rocks like a $500 real.

The "LEEDS" models in the UK were great because apart from spinning for ages with just one "bat" they had a longer stem than most so you could hold them on the reel seat with your hand directly above the reel. I had the 5.1/2" handle-less version which was OK as you just stuck your finger in one of the holes to reel a fish in. The late Dave Thomas, a brilliant float angler over here, advocated having the line coming off the top of the reel "backwards" which I did, made it much easier to "thumb" line out when trotting. Sadly I let it go back in the 90's when I stopped fishing flowing rivers but lots of people use them on canals once they master the art of feathering line on several fingers before casting.

What is a decent rod to pair up with? I generally fish the Cleveland tributaries in April - May with my fly rod. Problem is it has to be the right day. Fly rods seem pretty useless in Dec - Mar as you can’t cover enough ground.

depends on the size of the river. My go to is a 10ft Okuma Connoisseur steelheader, its roughly $50, I have 13ft rods for larger rivers.
